So far, I've been able to get Windmill, Shield Mastery, Combat Mastery, and Both Armor Masteries to rank 1. Smash and Critical are rank 5, and I'm working on it.
To max out ALL close combat skills, I need around 2362 more ap. I was originally planning on learning archery, then puppetry, but I figured that going straight to lance combat after close combat was a faster path. I felt like lvling both Close Combat AND archery would have taken too long cuz there's also puppetry.. +_+
But just wondering, should I max out all close combat skills? There are skills that give dex and will, instead of strength, but that all contribute positively, right? Gives me balance, crit, and magic def.
And I know that the ap needed is much less than what is needed for magic, but 2362 ap sounds a bit too much for ONE talent.. and I'm not sure how important close combat skills are, or rather, which skills in the Close combat talent are important.
Windmill, smash, crit, weap+combat mastery, assult slash, and defense was what I was told to max, then move on to another talent, but berserk, final hit, and many other can really benefit me too, right? O_o

There aren't even that many Ranged skills to begin with. Just rank Ranged Attack and Arrow Revolver later on for the Strength it gives. Even if you're not using a bow and arrow, it'll still at least benefit you in a large way.
Smash, Critical Hit, Sword Mastery (If you're using swords atm), Final Hit, Assault Slash, Lance Mastery, Lance Charge, Blunt Mastery, and Charge. These are skills that give you Strength (Outside of Critical and Sword Mast) and you're going to need to really build on that if you're attempting to work on a melee character.
You should also consider easy life skills like Mining and (to an extent) Carpentry for some more stats.
Edit: And no, you don't necessarily need to rank all the skills under the combat tab. A good portion of them won't really benefit you too much right now and if you're short on AP it's better to just leave them be.

I was wondering if I should learn the skills in Close Combat that give will and dex. Although not very much, if I'm melee, skills like defense (gives def+prot), counter, axe mastery, and etc give will and dex, right? Dex would be good for balance and Will would be good for luck and magic der/prot.
If should I just leave the will and dex? Get dex just from refinery and archery, and leave will cuz I'm not a fighter? :/

If you want to waste AP for the sake of completing the tab, then go ahead. I'm just saying to focus on the skills that give Strength since they'll benefit you the most if you're doing any kind of melee-oriented combat. You can always come back to the others later when you've gotten a more developed character.

Nunu I really DON'T want to finish the tab. I want to quickly move on to another tab asap D:
I was just wondering if I should work on the ones that give me will and dex, and if it'll benefit me, or if it'll just be useless. I feel like you're hinting that they are all pretty much useless, so I'll just move on then :D

I wouldn't call them useless. It's just not pertinent that you rank them right off the bat. Assuming you play for a while, you'll end up ranking them anyway. As a fresher character you'll probably want to focus on one aspect instead of many. There are some semi-common enchants that will boost your balance if need be, also. Will isn't really relevant to what you claim youre focusing on so best to ignore that for now unless you plan on actually using axes or ranking the Fighter talent. And since you said you want to go into lances, it might be in your best interest to consider stacking as much Strength as you can as a priority.

Ohh icic. Hmm I guess I should slowly lvl berserk (str), and evasion (I find it really useful, and low ap :D)
Thanks a lot for the help! I can save about 442 ap now. Not as bad as before xD
Can definitely master lance and close combat by 2.5-3k. Hue hue hue
(Depending on how much ap I spend on Bard.. +_+)
Ehh I gotta work on G quests for ap, but it's soooo frustrating and boring.. Saga was fun too.

You might also consider getting some magic skills (i.e. Thunder r5, firebolt r1) to help you go through some saga, raft and hot air.

Hmm I've finished saga, but what are the raft and air for? I've never done them before, but if it's for making money or something, I'll just stick with Warrior and Lancer. Just lvling those will get me around 3k.. Torture T-T

Rafting and Ballooning are for exploration exp. You can always take a ride with someone else if you need exploration EXP. You could also make a small amount of money from rafting and ballooning. However, I would recommend sticking to close combat before ranking any magic skills, since you can obtain exploration exp with other methods.

I'd advise against this due to the heavy AP cost. Plus these don't give str, which isn't really worth it.
Ranged attack and Arrow revolver are good enough.

If you run shadow missions quite often, I would train evasion to r9 for the double evade ability. Anything past that is for the dexterity which at the present, isn't super useful for you.
As ironwoman stated, ranking multiple bolts is not the best usage of AP right off the bat but having one bolt at r9 or r5 as a means of controlling agro can be quite desirable. Lightning bolt generally is considered the most desirable for melee and ranged combat due to its stun times though if you have low latency, ice bolt can be used to control monsters with dual aggression states (see the video below).

Depending on whether you prefer to tank damage or use mana shield, you should consider ranking the defense skill or the mana shield skill. Personally, I don't find mana shield very useful without the reforge (goes on gloves) but if you have enough intelligence, it can be viable. Though given that you've already capped shield mastery, I think ranking the defense skill would serve you better at this point.
In summary...
- Get the evasion skill to r9
- Consider ranking lightning or ice bolt for agro management
- Strive towards r1 defense and or mana shield if you deem it useful
Oh, lastly about puppetry - you really only need to finish one of the stats for it to be "useful" in hardmode level missions. For example, having 75% of the strength cap under your belt and 30% of the dex cap will be perfectly fine in most cases. It's only when you get to Lord level missions and the martial arts tournament that the combined stat pool really becomes pivotal.

Btw, the main reason you learn those "waste" skills in close combat is mostly to get your talent up which gives you talent bonus. So actually they are worth it in the end. I'm working on Lance now after just finishing close combat. It is definitely going to be a drag.
