Although I haven't done the calculations myself, everyone I've met so far told me that special upgrade weapons beat egos. Seems kinda weird, considering the fact that some egos have up to 2.5x the damage of a fully upgraded weapon, but I guess the 62% crit dmg (assuming it's r6 2h weapon) is really that good
But as I searched through wiki, I just found out today that all equips will lose durability permanently if the repair fails.. So I decided to make an ego for the heck of it. I always wanted to try making once the first time I saw it
At first, I wanted to make a Francisca ego, but I noticed that dual wielding swords would easily get me the 100% prof weapon I can use to repair my ego. So I searched and found 3 weapons worthy:
1. Hooked cutlass
2. Gladius
3. Bastard swords
Hooked cutlass is a slightly better version of Gladius in my opinion (high dmg) and high crit, but you can't just buy it at a store so that's a downside. Gladius seems to be very popular, but idk why. And Bastard swords have the best max dmg (189 max at 50lvl) but a low crit % of 22%, contrary to a Cutlass' 62%.
Which one handed sword should I make an ego out of? I don't really care how much and how long it takes for me to lvl it to 50. I just want an easy to repair, permanently usable weapon, unlike the Battle swords my friend has which are r6 special upgraded, but only has 1 durability cuz of failed repairs.. :/
Also, are ego bows good too? And what are some other good ego weapons? Heard Dustin sword was good

Thing is the investment money wise and time wise to even get a usable ego is unjustifiable in today's mabi. If you want dual wield with high max for dual wield, then two focused rainbow beams or really any second gen beamswords will outdo all the one handed weapon egos. In my opinion if you're not using a lance then you might as well be using a 2 handed weapon like a Highlander Claymore with Red upgrades and enchanted. Especially since there are relatively cheap r1 reforge versions. But you really won't see what's so great about red upgrades compared to blue until you have well over 360 max damage in character screen and r1 crit. My advice: egos are not worth the investment at least the ones you are looking at, don't use them. It takes tens of millions to make a maxed out ego and even then those who use egos already put the effort into maxing them, but starting from square one at this current point I would not recommend.
BUT IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE:
Bastard sword, cheap to make repairs for and max damage is awesome, if you can be a bit more spendy then hooked cutlass.
Also: you really shouldn't be afraid of repairing and failing and if you are, you can always use beamswords like I said. 20 max dura and they are basically throw away weapons for beginning players

1. Spirit weapons are not worth the investment whatsoever. It'll cost you upwards of 100,000,000 gold over 1~2 years worth of dedicated feeding for them to become relatively lackluster alternatives to upgraded/enchanted alternatives. If you're interested in dual wielding, focused rainbow beam swords are easy to pick up and they hold 180 max damage. Note that upgraded/enchanted lances are the best melee weapons, full-stop.
The only arguably good spirit weapon is the Fire Wand.
2. If you're absolutely determined to make a spirit weapon for some reason, the Bastard Sword is probably your best bet. It sports the greatest max damage, which is the only truly important stat end-game and it's also easy to repair. Critical is garbage; it's effectively capped at 230% and my character can probably hit around 400~500% critical right now.
I can deal around twice as much damage with my cheaply made highlander claymore than I can with the sword of elsinore (190) and a focused rainbow beam sword (180). None of my weapons/armor (barring my bohemian hat, which is protected) have failed to less than 7 durability and i've played consistently for around four years. Stay away from egos.

Tens of millions.. Hmm but wouldn't I have to spend that much and over for a r6 lance which will eventually reach 0 durability? I mean all the enchants, red upgrade stones, repair fees, and especially the freggen low chance of getting a rank 6 special upgrade..
And the red beams repairs are 22k D:

Ohh.. The main reason why in kinda freaking out right now is cuz after repairing my light armor twice, it already lost around.. Was it 6 durability? In just few weeks. Also, seeing all the burning enchants, enchanting, special upgrading processes are not very pretty.
Most, if all the friends I know have spent millions upon millions JUST to end up with special upgrade of 1r..
I just feel that the process of smithing, burning, enchanting, and upgrading is more stressful than a weapon you spend a year or two to lvl up (assuming anyone plays mabi by then)

In terms of gold, over time, a non-ego weapon such as a r1 step 5 ele 6 secret penetrating knight lance would be far more worth it than an ego will be, especially for damage output after you reach 360+ max.
And referring to what Kaeporo said about the ego taking 100m, if you have that kind of money you can buy the lance I stated above from another player for probably way less (30m?)
Feeding will drive you crazy, especially when you have to start buying mass amounts of diamonds. The only ego worth mentioning at this stage of the game would be a wand ego.
Did you forget to bless your equipment with holy water? Keep in mind that every time a point is broken from repairing, the holy water disappears on the item as well. Also, if you're repairing at a NPC with a low rate (such as 95%), that would probably be why. And remember to repair one point at a time rather than a full repair at once.

As everyone in the thread stated, ego weapons are simply not viable as your primary end-game weapon due to both the time and cost inefficiencies.
That being said, some ego weapons can be cheaper to maintain (note, not develop) despite their inferiority in damage. So there does exist a niche there but at your current stage of development, it is likely more expensive to maintain a sword ego than to make an unenchanted r5 battle sword per say.

[S]They also serve as a good backup weapon if you ever sell off all your other gear.[/S]
Spirit weapons really are something people shouldn't bother with unless they are pretty much done with everything else and want either the glow or the achievements that come with them. That's just my opinion on it lol
If you grind certain events that give high cm diamonds and such, especially if you buy them cheaply in addition to farming them, you can raise your weapon pretty quick. I know someone who raised a spirit weapon from nothing to 41+ social just during the doki doki island event that gave out 5cm diamonds. I also capped most of my stats (including social) during that doki doki island event from like 47 or 48 social. Very cheap alternative to feeding gold, but very situational.

You share this idea AFTER the event ends? :|
Oh well. I still give you rep (EDIT: I must spread some rep around)
On topic, I use egos as an aesthetics tool, lol (Butterfly Fan Ego)

Agree with the above few posts. Just invest a few million gold into a decent upgraded enchanted weapon and it will last you at least a few months.

Why don't you make one ego first and see do you like it, you can always throw them away and made a new one later.
I personally own a wing bow ego, after 2 months of feeding, now can do a bit more damage than my upgraded snowfall skilled HLL bow. I dont know how much i spent on it, I think at least 2,3 m. But I love my wing bow ego :D
If you decide to make one, Gladius ego is a good start since it has higher crit than Bastard swords.

I'm very very stubborn so I was planning on making one anyways xD
I just wanted an answer of whether it should be a Gladius or Bastard Ego. The thing is, I'm going to be dual wielding with the ego, so even if the Bastard Ego crit % is 22%, along with the 2nd spec upgraded battle sword or what not, I think I'll be fine with the crit problems :P
Well.. maybe not. I wouldn't know much cuz I'm fairly new.. But for some reason, I'm leaning a lot toward a Bastard, rather than a Gladius
AND YEA! I had over 30 gems from doki doki, but I was an idiot to think of making some quick cash and sold them all.. 4 of them were diamonds too..... Ugh. I still have around 6 that I got from MA, but I'll need a lottt more. I'm not really trying to make the strongest weapon. I just want an item that I can make my own. Thanks for all the tips and advices though! I'll be sure to keep them in mind

Where are you repairing that you already lost 6 dura? Repair at a 97%-98% NPC, not Ferghus or any of the 95%ers either.
I recently returned, and I have a high-stats ego from years ago (over 200 max broad axe). I feed it everything I get as random drops or don't use, though I have probably spent millions on short sword, gems, and stuff for it as well.
For end-game content (NPC, Scathach Beach, etc.) Lances are absolutely the way to go. Get a Knight or Demonic Lance (you see Demonics for 50k all the time), slap Secret and Penetrating ES on it, then upgrade it to r5 or r6. I see guildies critting over 40k smash with theirs. Mine is not yet special upgraded or r1 reforged, so I only do 9-12k or so in comparison.
I only use my ego Broad Axe bc I love Giant Full Swing. It's honestly obsolete, but I still love my Cleavage.
PS I really need to remake my sig.
