there not much you can do to combat lag base issues ... suggestions that might help
1. Increase your max damage by enchanting your bohemian set and hlb. It'll helps you one shot most enemy so u don't have to worry too much about reacting afterwards. [Rank support shot, obtain sniper title, rank counterattack and any other combat base dex skills]
2. Instead of attempt SOG u can attempt zero shot [aim as close as possible] for increase aim speed allowing to spam magnum faster and clear rooms faster.
3. Increase your max mp pool and rank potion making skill so you can make your own supply of mp potions. [Rank Magic mastery for increase mp]
4. Mount range is still a usable tactic?. not sure about detail but apparently can aim to max [even though it says 50%] when moving on a mount allowing hit and run tactics
5. Start some easy life skills. A lot of people says life skills cost a shit ton and its takes a lot of gold but imo the amount of gold you rack up just trying to level up your alt, doing events and obtaining freebie stuff from events makes cost non-exist. At the moment the liar game gives out 2x life pots from the liar gift box, Lorraine nightmare event gives out 10 point exp training seals and bazzar ended not too long? ago so hopefully materials can still be cheapish?
- Potion Making/Herbalism free just slightly time consuming
- Handicrap/Smithing/Tailoring ptj up to r9? +
- Weaving/Refine is a must if u havnt completed them [easy enough? time consuming maybe]
- Tasting/Cooking can be done slowly and passively [kitchen dungeon gives decent exp]
Thanks. I'll try zero shot and see how that works as oppose to SoG. I probably won't be doing mounted combat since I never really liked it. Also, I haven't done the nightmare events because it's troublesome to do it more than once a day since this elf is my alt after all. + Rep

Hi there,
I've played my elf for quite some time now and I am sitting at 2k total. I started with pure archery, then moved into melee and finished puppetry afterwards. According to my experience, unless you really love archery and have a lot of free time and money to throw into this game, just treat it as an intermediary step to puppetry. I started puppetry with around 800 dex and 300 str and my damage was amazing even with a basic controller bar. I was pushing out 7k crit climatic crash damage with an unupgraded weapon. In terms of equipment, as I have mentioned before, unless you really love archery, dont use the behemion set. They are very expensive and you will very likely be enchanting them yourself and wasting millions of gold. Since the puppet talent uses both strength and dexterity, you can easily find cheap and useful enchants such as pirate(15str?) and strider (16str?) to use.
*edit
Forgot to address survivability. I only remember dying frequently during those pure archery times. You should be fine after ranking melee and puppet skills. Windmill, act 1 and act 4 will save you from most situations.
Hmm... I think I will switch over to melee and see how that works out for me. I'll work on puppets after I get enough str + dex. I've used a pirate enchant on my gamyu prior to my bohemian set, and I'll test out puppets after doing melee for a while. +rep

I'd say ditch the Magnum Shot set for now, and just do crappy damage. Like you said, crappy damage is nearly always going to be the trade-off when using an alt-character. You're not dying because your damage output sucks; you're dying because you're missing with your knockback skill on a fragile, ranged-attack character.
The thing is that regardless of what I wear, my survivability will always be around the same. (Heavy armor takes way too much dex, so I must use light) I have r1 light armor mastery and I used to wear a gamyu armor before getting the set. From what I have noticed so far, having ~18 extra def makes little difference. Thanks for the advice though, I'll try out light armors again and see how that works out for me.

A mana shield reforge and effective range bow are really the only way to combat your current problems. Other than that, latency is super penalizing for range and I literally can't imagine using it outside of the West Coast.
I live all the way here in the east coast, so I do tend to lag once in a while. Unfornately, I've never had luck with reforges, and they are still expensive to me. I'll consider reforges much later though, since I'm still somewhat of a noob.

So here is my plan:
I will switch over to close combat for a while, and use my old gamyu armor. (I will use an axe + shield set up). I will still be using ranged as my aux weapon while ranking close combat (and using zero shot instead of SoG)
Next, I will rank basic close combat skills and gain str. I will also rank def for the def it gives. Then, I will either switch back to ranged or puppets and see how that works out.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
