PLEASE READ THIS FIRST
Hello everyone.~
It has been a long time since I have done a guide, but I thought about this technique as I was playing today. So I figured I would share it with everyone.
Since I currently have a crappy computer and can't really fight monsters, I was thinking about non-combat ways to gain EXP. The Tara Banquet is nice, but that only happens for one hour ... for one specific day. What about the rest of the week? Well, that question has led me this far.
Please do not think for a second I am suggesting these as alternatives to normal methods of getting EXP. Rather, I present these two methods for those that have to temporarily deal with crappy computers, lag, or just want to gain a small amount of EXP while doing something else in real life.
Both of these methods assume that you craft at 99% and that you have the ability to uncap Production limits, which is a mod. If you don't know what I am talking about - sorry, this guide can still be used - but it won't be as ... AFK-y?
Anyway! Although I present two plausible methods, there may be other more efficient ways of getting EXP while AFK out there ... this is as far as I have gotten so far.

Method #1: Making Paper Cranes (Handicraft)
Steps
1-) Get a Blessed Handicraft Kit (15 Dur)
2-) Have a minimum of Handicraft Rank F
2-) Buy 3 stacks of Paper from General Store for a total of 300 Paper
3-) Use Handicraft skill and add Paper to crafting boxes (up to 1000 Paper can be added)
4-) Craft individual Paper Cranes
Data
- The total cost of 300 Paper is 300 gold
- The Handicraft Kit costs 520 gold
- Each Paper Crane costs 8 Stamina to make
- A Blessed Handicraft Kit (15 DUR) will make 300 Paper Cranes before reaching 0 Durability
- Each Paper Crane takes 6 seconds to make, plus 2 seconds of idle animation.
Thus one "cycle" can be described as taking 8 seconds.
- Each Paper Crane crafted grants 100 EXP
Calculations
One cycle of Crafting Paper Cranes will require:
- 300 Paper
- 1 Handicraft Kit
- 1 Holy Water for Handicraft Kit
- 2,400 seconds which is 40 minutes
- [2400 - 960]= 1440 Total Stamina (You will naturally regain 960 Stamina in 40 minutes)
Because the highest anyone can have is a 99% success rate and the natural decay of durability,
the estimated amount of Paper Cranes made in 40 minutes is actually 296 Paper Cranes.
Rewards
Crafting 296 Cranes will grant a grand total of 29,600 EXP.
Which is 29,600 EXP per 40 minutes. (740 EXP/min)
*If you have a Life Skill Talent active, you instead gain 200 EXP per Paper Crane crafted.
Thus, that will add up to 59,200 EXP per 40 minutes. (1,480 EXP/min)*
Advantages
- Method #1 is very cheap as it only requires items from the General Store
- Paper Cranes stack up to 1,000, thus they do not take up much inventory room
- Paper Cranes can be used to rank up higher levels of the skill Fragmentation
- Method #1 will partially train the Handicraft skill for any rank
Disadvantages
- Method #1 is limited by the Handicraft Kit's durability
- Requires a large amount of Stamina, even more than Method #2
- Grants less EXP over time compared to Method #2
Method #2: Making Iron Ingots (Refining)
Steps:
1-) Get 500 Iron Ore or 200 Iron Ore Fragments (More info later)
2-) Have a minimum of Refining Rank F
2-) Find an active Furnace and click on it (Go to any Homestead)
3-) Add Iron Ore or Iron Ore Fragments to crafting boxes
4-) Craft Iron Ingots
Data
- A Maximum of 500 Iron Ore can be added to the Crafting Window
- A Maximum of 200 Iron Ore Fragments can be added to the Crafting Window
- Each Iron Ingot costs 5 Stamina to make if Refining is Rank F-A or Rank 1
- Each Iron Ingot costs 10 Stamina to make if Refining is Rank 9-2
- Each Iron Ingot takes 6 seconds to make, plus 2 seconds of idle animation.
Thus one "cycle" can be described as taking 8 seconds.
- Each Iron Ingot crafted grants 300 EXP
Calculations 1 (Iron Ore)
One cycle of Crafting Iron Ingots from Iron Ore will require:
- 500 Iron Ore
- 800 seconds which is 13.33 minutes
- [1000 - 320]= 680 Total Stamina if Refining is 9-2
- [500 - 320]= 180 Total Stamina if Refining is F-A or Rank 1
Because the highest anyone can have is a 99% success rate the
estimated amount of Iron Ingots made in 13.33 minutes is actually 99 Iron Ingots.
Rewards 1
Crafting 99 Iron Ingots from Iron Ore will grant a grand total of 29,700 EXP.
Which is 29,700 EXP per 13.33 minutes. (2,227.5 EXP/min)
*If you have a Life Skill Talent active, you instead gain 600 EXP (!) per Iron Ingot crafted.
Thus, creafting Iron Ingots from Iron Ore will add up to 59,400 EXP per 13.33 minutes. (4,455 EXP/min)*
Calculations 2 (Iron Ore Fragment)
One cycle of Crafting Iron Ingots from Iron Ore Fragments will require:
- 200 Iron Ore
- 320 seconds which is 5.33 minutes
- [400 - 128]= 272 Total Stamina if Refining is 9-2
- [200 - 128]= 72 Total Stamina if Refining is F-A or Rank 1
Because the highest anyone can have is a 99% success rate the
estimated amount of Iron Ingots made in 5.33 minutes is actually 39.6 Iron Ingots.
This means that in 5 cycles, one can expect 198 Iron Ingots to be made.
Rewards 2
Crafting 39.6 Iron Ingots from Iron Ore Fragments will grant a grand total of 11,880 EXP.
Which is 11,880 EXP per 5.33 minutes. (2,227.50 EXP/min)
*If you have a Life Skill Talent active, you instead gain 600 EXP (!) per Iron Ingot crafted.
Thus, crafting Iron Ingots from Iron Ore Fragments will add up to 23,760 EXP per 5.33 minutes. (4,455 EXP/min)*
Advantages
- Method #2 grants more EXP per minute
- Method #2 will partially train the Refining skill for any rank
- Iron Ingots can be used to rank up the skill Fragmentation
- Iron Ingots can be Fragmented to gain back some ore, thus re-fueling Method #2 again
Disadvantages
- Requires more checking up on Mabinogi, thus is less AFK-friendly than Method #1
- Method #2 requires more inventory space due to Iron Ores (2x2) and Iron Ingots (only stack up to 20)
- Iron Ore and Iron Ore Fragments CANNOT be placed in the same crafting window
- Iron Ore/Iron Ore Fragments cannot normally be bought from NPCs, thus it must be gathered or bought from other players
