So... I remembered this show and tried to watch it again... It was... interesting. The whole time I was trying to figure out how the heck does their network connect. So... Net Navis can enter any network themselves, but in order to use battlechip, you must physically "jack in" the server with your PET... Also... why the hell are their oven networked? What is the point of networking ovens? What you want start a oven party where every oven on the block bake at the same time?
Chai's treehouse has a netbattle room... and it got hacked... HOW? Why isn't it a private server? If you build a freaking treehouse with the equipments to do net battle offline, then it's a LAN. AND IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE NETWORKED! Some random jackass hacked in four kids playing a game and try to steal battlechips... first of all, that's creepy as fuck, the guy is like 30. Second, had the treehouse had its own server, this wouldn't be a problem.
Maybe I've been spoiled by smart animes like HunterxHunter but the battle chip system in this anime is just so random. What's the difference between A Hero Sword / Broad Sword / Long Sword? And how is it a battlechip can be rare? It's data... copy it and make more. Do these chips have DRM? I was watching the show and Numberman was attacking Clyde with dice, and Clyde has Life Ward, a powerful defensive battle chip on. I keep thinking Numberman is going to do something clever to disable it, but nope, here have more dice, just tank this shit. It was actually kind of unbelievable they went with that.

Dunno about the show, but I loved the Mega Man Battle Network game for GBA. As for networking things...

..and it's not exaggerating:

I never really understood how the anime handled battlechips either ...
But at least in the game (assuming the anime follows similar logic), you have to personally defeat the viruses that drop said chips. (Stronger virus = Stronger/Rare chip)
Or you buy them from others. Meaning you either are filthy rich (like Yai) or strong enough to defeat these tough viruses on your own. I think battlechips CAN be copied, but it's like illegal black market business. Thus these copied battlechips are prone to have viruses on them, or malfunction.
As a side note - Battlechips in the anime also have to be "re-charged" at a charging station, so they have limited use. So it is entirely possible to "run out" of battlechips and not be able to use anything short of your Net Navi's standard attack.
Thus, I believe one could view battlechips like USBs? You need to plug in the USB into a computer before you can run any programs.
A USB that has a program that can only be used once, until the "USB" is recharged.

*Yai
*Glyde
*LifeAura
And battlechips aren't random.
certain battlechips have different degrees of use...and obviously some aren't available everywhere.
And yeah,I admit it's MAYBE a bit odd how some characters just bash through defenses like nothing...but the effectiveness of chips in the games =/= effectiveness in the anime. NUmberman's dicebombs can't even scratch you in MMBN1 with a LIfeAura on.
Oftentimes, the more skilled a navi is the more effective the battlechip is for them...
And as for the 30-yr old guy,Higsby is a battlechip Otaku...he wanted whatever wasn't sold everywhere for himself, until he became a good guy.
...I've probably been ninja'd by now. But yeah.

Nothing wrong with Starforce. But for those who recognize stuff as 'Megaman' by the characters, they might go 'Oh! There's Protoman! And Roll! And WILY!" if they're just used to the Original...
Even though I haven't fully gotten through the first boss' area,I know I like the game and the anime...despite each episode being super-short like Beast+'s episodes.
