Basically, when it comes down to it, is the Highlander superior to the Infinite Bow? The latter has 300 more range after upgrades, along with having the potential to have both higher max damage and crit. Despite this, I only ever seem to see people using highlanders. Is this just because they use the Gacha r1 reforge Highlanders rather than grinding a Demonic all the way to good reforges, or am I missing something?

Yup, it's because of the pre-reforges as well as HLB ususally being more around.
If you do really wanna go hard all the way, Demonic might be the answer for you.

Also, repair costs for the demonic long bow:
Quote from Mabinogi World Wiki:
98% = 16,875 G
Compared to the HLB:
Quote from Mabinogi World Wiki:
98% = 4,687 G
I use clean demonic bows for rafting because of the range if I can get them for around 100k (I have about 3 such bows now) and just repair at ferghus.

If we're talking endgame tryhards, sig a demonic and get ele+range combo reforges along with r6 and +10000% repair fee enchants

Can I be the one to say that the Bhafel Hunter is the end-game bow?

The OP specifically asked for comparison between HLB and Demonic. Of course Bhafel would be better than the either.
Do keep in mind, that with the money it takes to make Bhafel, you might as well make an ele 6 HLB or Demonic.

From my personal experience,
just a hunter isn't that amazing. You would absolutely need to pair it with a huntress for it to be worth pursuing in the long run. I did maybe 500 more damage magnums with my bhafel hunter at the same ele/step level as my hlb I used to use (in HM shadow missions/NPC). An absolute max roll hunter (which is...certainly some luck) is only 1 more more max than a demonic bow(according to the wiki's upgrade path for demonic bow, but you might be able to squeeze more max utilizing the artisan, but that may not be a viable choice due to capping dex from catering and what not). Of course, the hunter has the piercing advantage, but that never really seemed to do much on its own.

Anyways if you are deciding between HLB vs. Demonic, dps-wise, Demonic ones are much better. As you said, people prefer to use HLB because gachas spit out pre-reforged r1s, whereas Demonic bows, you have to reforge starting from r3. If I were you, I would get pre-reforged r1 HLB than a Demonic.

I suppose the 900K to get a r1 Highlander isn't too bad, I'm mostly just broke because I'm lazy. Thanks for the input guys, the repair cost was a huge thing to know lol. That said, I typically just repair my gear blessed at Nerys with the discount, so idk. I already have a Demonic Bow that I picked up for like 50K because someone made a typo.

Yeah if you care about maintenance fees, HLB would be much better choice

To be fair I just use an upgraded Fomor Skilled ELB for most content, and could easily use that to make the 16K/point to repair a demonic. What I worry about most is that, if I do get into using reforges, getting good ones on a Demonic would take so much bloody money.

Demonic weapons are mostly awful. Gloomy Sunday and Illusion Control Bars are the exception. You can make an argument for Hellfire and Abyss because Nexon won't ever add 1 Rank alchemist weapons to gachapon.
They have the weaknesses of both dragon weapons and pre-reforged gachapon gear with none of their strengths.

No. The ducats wasted on buying fomor weapons should be used on something better.

Apart from Bhafel set, what would be better than Demonic Infinite though? BDK bow can't be enchanted nor s.upgraded, so the stronger I get the more an R-type bow will outstrip the damage gap (which is narrowed by enchants anyway, and only somewhat boosted by lv1 pierce) and, initial reforge cost of the bow aside, the Infinite is flatly better than the Highlander in terms of crit and damage.

Nah, I use FELB 'casue it's dirt-cheap to maintain and has some kick to it. FHLB would defeat the dirt-cheap part and won't become an end-game bow anyway.
