Ugh. Okay so take two of this post.
Hi everyone. I'm Maldaris, the Developer for Erinn Exchange.
Nihl and I have been talking for the past half hour or so and we've talked things out. Here's the synopsis.
Nihl and I have come up with the idea for a Mabinogi Auction site (a la BasilMarket) INDEPENDENTLY.
Up until about five or so hours ago, Nihl wasnt aware that EE existed, let alone I was developing a similar site.
I heard about MabiMart the night before, but decided to wait to contact him.
No plagiarism has occurred, and everything is fine.
The timing on all this sucks.
I'd like to give a brief rundown of what Erinn Exchange is, and what inspired it.
I'm a veteran programmer of about three years worth of work in designing and building server software, including APIs like what powers Erinn Exchange. That said, this is my first foray into jQuery and the real work of designing the front-end of the site. I also come from EVE Online. If anyone's at all familiar with what EVE is, you know the intensity in which the economy runs. When I played this there were tons of resources for price checking and listing sales outside of the game. Using these, you'd be able to get the maximum amount for your money, whether it be buying or selling.
Mabinogi has none of this. It's scattered across an innumerable amount of forums and isn't easily searchable. Prices are largely done by word of mouth, and there's no real way to look at where the price has been the past few days.
Erinn Exchange is designed to remedy this. It's going to (and in some cases, already does) contain:
- Auction Listing with full featured Searching by Tags/Attributes/Colors
- Price Checking that factors in unique stats, reforges, dyes, and enchants
- An "ebay" like system for rating and recommending sellers.
So far I'm about 20% of the way done with the code what I'd like to get out of the site. I've been working on this since about mid-May. This whole showing to the public was completely unintended. I originally publicly hosted the site for /vg/ users about a week ago, to assist me in debugging and get feedback on how the site operates/looks/feels.
I understand there's probably some 4chan related stigma around this site. I'm not really sure how to approach this. All I can say is that they gave me the impetus to stay up till 3 AM some mornings finishing features for them to test. They've given me advice even if it's harsh. And they've been supportive, especially when this fiasco broke out. I wouldn't replace these guys for the world.
Thanks for reading this if you've gotten this far. If you have any questions that I didn't answer here, contact me at maldaris[at]erinnexchange[dot]com
