How refresh rate in Monitors and our perception of it actually work

There's no need to bitch, as AMD developed FreeSync, which gets you a similar benefit without restricting you to a particular brand of GPU. The technology has already been accepted as part of the DisplayPort 1.2a spec.

As long as I can see the game and it looks pretty, I'm all good.

On that note, Yoorah said something interesting and it makes me wonder...

As long as 30 is the minimum I'm fine.
I don't care if my games are at 60 FPS since I don't even notice it in-game, only on videos.

AMD processors or graphics cards?
Processors...depends on your budget, but mostly no.
Graphics card? Nothing wrong with AMD cards except for XFX having shit coolers.
The market for graphics cards changes very often with AMD and Nvidia going at it every few months so there is no definite answer, but as of right now only the 770 (if you have a few more dollars to spend on your budget otherwise get a 280X), the GTX 780, and it's Ti variant are the only Nvidia cards worth getting

I usually play on 30fps, but I'll gladly up to 60 if my computer can handle it. Looks noticeably better.

I've never really noticed a difference when playing games over 30 fps. Maybe when actually playing a game there's subtle changes that I don't realize but looking at those 30 vs 60 things for me they may as well be the exact same video.

Strange. It's glaringly obvious. Whats more, is that you start 30fps and think it looks fine, then move to 60fps and think it looks a "little better", and then you try moving back down to 30fps and it looks absolutely unbearable.

Luckily you don't turn around constantly in most games. The difference in the CS example was severe, but I couldn't confidently rule out perception bias as the reason for the minimal differences I perceived in the FC3 videos. It is certainly not a big enough jump that it would convince me to spend money for 30 more FPS.

Also, this is also about Hertz refresh rate, not just fps. I specifically posted this to relativise the 120Hz ultra elite master class marketing a bit, especially for home cinema purposes.

And please don't forget that it's not as simple as 30fps versus 60fps, which becomes clear when you read the article.
