I wanted to check out first few chapters yesterday and ended up reading 3 volumes straight. With "monster's" point of view, it reminds me of Shiki, albeit more shounen-style - with plenty of random fights and so on. Some neat stuff, I'd say.

I've caught up with all of the anime episodes and I just started reading the manga. I can see them both going separate ways in how they tell the story but I find them both really entertaining. Touka is more of a dick in the manga though, at least were I am in the story.
I read some comments on the manga, saying that the anime completely sucks compared to the manga and those people are just.. eugh. The anime is just as good currently. The art style in my opinion is definitely prettier and more touched up. Great animations, the voice acting is wonderful ( I mean the Nishiki sounds like such a badass, Hide sounds cute, toka sounds wonderful, and I could listen to kaneki talk for hours.) I hope the english dub is just as good.
I'm rambling now, but I'm trying to say that they are both worth their salt.

I got bored in between of the season's episodes because Kaneki took awhile to develop...Like literally 12/13 episodes

he does take awhile to develop, but that's pretty good considering character development takes awhile in everything
you can't just take a few episodes, like 2 or 3, and suddenly the character is better/less scared or afraid
i think the development is pretty good
ALSO the blu-ray is now completely out, so purchase or acquire it if you hate censors

I still want to know why the main character is a dumbass. He finds out he is half ghoul. He knows that normal blades cannot penetrate a ghoul's skin(as evidenced by trying to stab himself to test it). That means the doctor knew what he was doing during the operation because he would have needed special tools for slicing up ghouls to do the transfer. Yet never once in the entire first season does the kid even CONSIDER going back to the doctor and demanding a fucking explanation. That would have been the FIRST thing I did upon noticing I SUDDENLY HAD A CRAVING FOR HUMAN FLESH.
