My current mouse; a Razer Naga is giving me some issues. Sometimes it doesn't respond well, and sometimes its reading like its going against a wall. Like it wont let me go further then a certian point on the screen, and in games, that can REALLY screw you up.
I noticed the wire is a bit stiff, which im thinking is the issue. But im also considering getting a Wireless Mouse, sounds like they would be less of a hassle.
EDIT: If i were to purchase a Wireless mouse. Id probally have to look into long life and sturdy. probally no more then 50-70$

The mouse only going up to a certain point and hitting the wall is a software issue. Mabi does this for me sometimes, where the mouse doesn't like moving outside of the Mabi window. An alt-tab fixes it for me. It has to do with how the application grabs the input and whatnot. Not sure about the response problems, though.
Do NOT get a wireless mouse. A $20 corded optical Logitech will feel like an upgrade over those. This is from personal experience.
I have a Logitech G600 right now and it's pretty awesome. Particularly for FFXIV, since I can pretty much map all the hotkeys I need to the side keypad of the mouse. o/

Maybe you just need to reinstall the drivers?
The stiff wire is hardly the issue unless your space directly in front of your mouse is cramped with stuff that restrict your movement.
