Well, recently my computer was having a problem. I couldn't enable firewall, couldn't turn on bit defender, malwarebytes wouldn't open, and I had no connection to the internet.
So my first reaction is that I must have some serious malware/virus stuff going on. After some effort and personal trouble shooting I was able to open malwarebytes and do a scan and surprisingly found nothing, I did multiple scans with no success and eventually did some other things to see if I could at least get my internet working.
I foolishly uninstalled my internet drivers and attempted to reinstall them through a flash drive but I got an error message saying realtek Ethernet controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled Please plug the Cable. ( I'm running on a desktop so I don't think it's that)
After this I did a bunch of fixes and tweaks to my computer, was able to get the firewall working and felt I was making progress, after reboot the computer reinstalled it's internet driver but it has a yellow exclamation mark and an error code 31 and sometimes error code 1 the parameter is incorrect.
Now this is what I've done so far off the top of my head.
1) I tried turning off and unplugging my computer for over 10 mins after pressing the power button to let the stored energy out.
2) tried taking out the ram cards for over 15 mins and reinstalling them.
3) tried multiple different installations with other compatible Ethernet drivers through a flash drive but no dice yet.
4) going into my bios and making sure networking was enabled (it was)
5) setting my bios to default.
I sadly don't have a backup which is my own fault x,x
Everything seems to be working, just the Ethernet drivers will not install correctly, I've also tried installing them in safe mode. Sooooo please help? ^^ this whole mess also started after a storm that reset my computer while it was booting, but I'm not sure if that's what caused it.
Edit: I also think my computer did a windows update, but I'm not 100% sure! my computer is plugged into a power safety thing to protect from thunder storms so I don't think it was the storm but who knows?..

Try installing it manually through the Device Manager. You can point it to the folder where you have unpacked the driver files and it'll do the rest.
I'm assuming you've tried both the drivers available from Realtek directly and from your computer's/motherboard's software download pages.
If that doesn't work, then your computer's OS is seriously messed up and it's not worth the hassle to troubleshoot (just reinstall the OS), or that storm fried your NIC.
I guess you could also test it in a lazy way by downloading Ubuntu and booting it was a live CD/USB without installing it on your computer's disk. If the network card doesn't work from Ubuntu, then there's a good chance that the hardware is damaged (or it could just not be supported by Ubuntu, though that's unlikely--Google is your friend here.)

Thanks for the reply! I think I may just reinstall the os, I still have the product key sticker on my computer so I think I'll be able to reinstall windows with a flash drive I think. I'll just have to be more careful this time and back up my computer on disc this time around.
According to this site,
http://www.pcworld.com/article/248995/how-to-install-windows-7-without-the-disc.htmlI should probably use magical jelly bean to make sure the windows 7 product code matches just in case
