Upgrade path for Merlin Knuckles and Fighter crit

  Hi, I was wondering if someone could give me some insight into which upgrade is better for Merlin Shyllien Mana Knuckles? The first upgrade gives you two options:
  [1] +2 dura +9 crit
  [2] -1 dura +7 Max
  
  A friend of mine tells me all fighter skills ignore protection when calculating critical hit, is this true? As it would make the second path vastly superior. And if not, is +7 max worth 3 dura and 9 crit loss?

  I would stick with the max damage simply because getting critical isnt difficult. For 99% of the content you will fight you will most likely be crit capped by the time u finish fighter and have ur character established in terms of most basic skills and weapon critical.

  As long as you have 130+ crit, you're fine.
  
  To give you an idea of how easy crit is to get, I'm sitting at 170 crit with my lance and I don't even use crit enchants. Also, still didn't rank fighter.

  Just go with the +max, you can also use platinum hammers if the durability really sucks.

  Not true. Wiki only says the first stage chain skills.

  True or not, players will still have enough crit.
