  My commute to work by subway only takes around 20 minutes, walking included. I don't even need to show up at the office--I can just work from home when I feel like it. I actually enjoy taking the subway, and the extra walking you do when taking public transit is good for your health! Americans' habit of driving everywhere by car is one reason why they got so fat. :|
  
  Gotta admit, I do want to buy a car sometimes, just 'cause cars are cool. Ashikoki insists it would also be good for picking up womenz. At one point, I almost bought a motorcycle...

  Never have I had to make payments on a car. I've always hated owing people money. My first car was a 2009 S40 which I payed for in cash, though i'm probably going to sell it here shortly.
  
  After my parents got a divorce my mother assumed custody of my sister and I. We lived in various trailer parks until I reached fifth grade. At that point my father obtained custody and my mother disappeared off the face of the earth. I moved into a massive farmhouse with around 500 acres of land. My step mother lived there until her mother passed away and left it the farm to her brother, who shortly afterwords commited suicide. We moved into a house nearby where I lived a fairly standard rural middle-class life until the day I decided the join the Air Force.
  
  Nobody normal joins the military. At some point, we've all been broken.

  People just make up excuses subsequently titled "life". "Oh, no. I can't make my college classes because my mother is sick! I must attend to her!" "Oh, no. I hurt myself while working and now nobody will hire me!"
  
  The people who can let go of those distractions are the ones who "make it". Not that success inherently leads to happiness...

  Depends on what you want to buy. As a family, saving, say, $300k over the course of 10 years is pretty easy if you live within your means in the first place.
  
  Buying a house is a surprisingly poor investment in most cases, however. It's more of a luxury lifestyle upgrade, particularly if you have a family. I've been tempted to buy a fancy condo in a tower with a nice view. :<

  Unfortunately, it's only getting slightly better fuel economy compared to most other compact cars, and does not get the performance of a sporty car, either. If they had it in a pure EV form, with decent range and a price tag below 40K, I'd grab one for the hell of it. :0 Probably..
  
  And hey... I never said a luxury condo is a better investment. Then again, I wouldn't argue that they aren't, either, given how many of the new condo units being built in desirable cities are bought by investors and not people who are actually gonna live there. @_@;
