What specific armor should I get.
My total level is around 70, I'm close combat, and have around 150k.
Is there a specific one I should be going for or...?

[UB]Save up for a thames set. Use a cheap player made armor for now, doesn't matter what it is.[/UB]

To be honest, it depends on your preferences.
Thames is a cheap set that'll keep you going for a long time.
Alternatively, you can start doing Adventurer Seal quests and save up as many of them as you want, and buy a Royal Knight set from the Adventurer Seal stores on Saturdays. It's fairly expensive in terms of seals (350 seals + 160 for gaunts+boots), but you'll keep your gold and get a very nice set.

What's your race?
Honestly at level 70 you shouldn't be focusing on armor. Stay with Adventurer's Crux.

It definitely depends on one's preference as well as one's financial situation.
Assuming you want to stick with armor for quite sometime, there are really only 2 armor sets, Thames and Royal Knight (from adventure shop), you would want to invest time/money into obtaining. Thames is good for the x1.15 bonus damage added to smash and assault slash, while Royal Knight is a very good defensive set which provides magic def/prot. Also, you should be looking carefully at the total number of smash/assault slash enchancement points the Thames pieces would provide, as you should be ideally aiming for at least a total of 10 points for the enhancment to take effect. Try not to purchase any pieces with only 1 point, as 4-point pieces generally rare and are sold at much higher prices.
Early game, I would suggest going with any upgradable piece of armor(light or heavy) until you either save up enough money, for Thames, or seals, for Royal Knight.
As heavy armor generally cost more to repair than light armor, light armor may help to save a bit of money. You may also want to consider the fact that heavy armor mastery reduces %dex (which negatively effects your balance),though it may not matter as much if your enchants (or the weapon's balance) provides you enough to compensate. If low balance is not an issue, heavy armor is the way to go.
This is strictly just my opinion.

Also note that Thames pieces cannot give more than 3 points a piece.
As for immediate armor, the beginner crux armor or Quartz Pitch Black Lorica Segmentata that people get from raids are good enough.
For heavy armor, you should be aiming for Thames. In Mabinogi, where best offense is best defense in general, you don't need big amount of defense, hence why I still think Royal Knight Armor is not that great for combat. With Thames and masteries, you'll get enough defensive stats to keep you alive, but you'll also have that smash enhancement that others can't give.
As for end-game run, Encore Champion Gamyu armor (assuming you're a human) is your best bet.

Thames = Close Combat & Knight
Royal Knight Armor = Alchemy, Magic, Gunslinger and Ninja
