The eleventh set of matches are posted. We're at the final stretch, so now it's time to discuss the tournament.
As I have said, the tournament will be held on Sunday, the 28th. I have asked the competitors on Skype about when the best time for the tournament to start for them, stating that since I work that day, and the latest I'll be out that night would be 6PM EST, that that would be the best time for me. The two that responded that that time would be fine with them. However, since that's only two out of twelve that have responded, it's not official yet. I will have an official start time come Wednesday when I post the last two matches.
And a reminder for everyone competing, you have until an hour before the tournament starts to have completed all of your matches. If you haven't completed all of your matches, and there have been no signs of you trying to get a hold of your opponent(s) to have your match, then you won't qualify for the tournament. There are a few of you that have only three or four matches so far, so I'll be sending you PMs on Wednesday just to remind you that you have until [insert time here] on Sunday to get your remaining matches done.
The reason I want a specific start time instead of doing it the way I have been, and let the players do it at their own pace is because of the fact that the championship tournament will be live streamed. Herro has said that he'll be hosting the stream for every match except for his own, where he said that he'd try to get someone on the Korean Test team to stream in his place. I know that you can watch the battles as they happen without the delay, however I'm also planning on getting some people to maybe do commentary. I figured this way, it would be more interesting for those people who aren't in the competition to have some enjoyment instead of just watching some animated sprites shoot colored balls at each other. You can either PM me about it now, or wait until I ask Chise if he could put up a yellow banner announcing to the public to send me a PM if they're interested. At the very least, I'm looking for two people, a
play-by-play commentator and a
color commentator, but if I get enough people with decent adlibbing skills interested, I might extend roles to a
sideline reporter and interviewees (to get thoughts on matches from the trainer's point of view, could either be the trainer himself/herself or someone taking their thoughts and reading it for them), as well as maybe special guests.
The rules for the tournament will be as follows:
1. Each trainer that qualifies must present to me a roster of 8 Pokemon they will use for the entirety of the tournament. They can build any combination of teams that consist of 6 of those 8 Pokemon for their matches. However, if a trainer uses a Pokemon that isn't registered to them, they will automatically be disqualified from the tournament, and their current opponent will automatically advance to the next round.
2. The first round will be single elimination. Whoever wins their match will advance to the next round against the Trainers that received a bye. The second, semi-finals and third place match will be best two out of three, where as the championship match will be a best of five. I originally planned it so that to advance to the next round, you need to win two matches against your opponent, and to win the championship, you needed three wins against your opponent. However, I reconsidered this because of time constraints.
3. Unlike normal tournaments, the low seeds will be getting byes for the first round of the tournament. This way, they have better chances of getting further into the tournament. While this event was meant to focus more on building community and not on winning the prizes, I wouldn't exactly call it "fair" for the people who have little skill in the Pokemon meta game to go up against the people who have shown to have a better skill level with it in the first round and have no chance of advancing, even before the tournament starts. I'm sure a lot people feel the same way where they won't have any fun if they know that they're going to lose.
4. Because we'll be having our matches procedurally, instead of all at once so that we can stream each match, Trainers will only have two minutes to pick their moves. We will have anywhere between 21 and 30 matches to go through that night, and undoubtedly some of those matches will end up being long ones because of stall teams, plus with the three minute break between matches for team editing, we could be here quite a while, so reducing as much time as I can properly allow to help try and get everything done in one night should benefit everyone.
Each trainer will get three warnings in each match if they go over two minutes. After the third warning, the player forfeits that current match automatically. Please make sure that you take care of things (bathroom, snack, etc) before your matches, and if you know that you are going to be away for an extended period of time, please let everyone know ahead of time, as well as about how long it will be before you're done, so that we can rotate things around while you take care of whatever it is that you're doing (dinner, walking dog, etc.). We'll try our best to accommodate your schedule, but remember that there are eleven other people that will be waiting for you, and will probably also need to have to stop for a while for dinner themselves.
5. Please follow Mabination's rules, whether you're watching the live stream, of if you're in the Skype call if you're going to be doing voice work. While this may not be an "officially sanctioned" event, it is for the Mabination community, so you should be able to at least follow this site's rules.
