I just like to play with Pokemon I like, which can't compete with Jimmy NoLife's hardcore team that he took 4 months to make perfect in every way so it can't possibly lose.   Yeah I'm pretty sure most of us who applied aren't hardcore competitive pros. I didn't play Pokemon in years, except for that one time against an old friend almost a year ago. It's jsut a fun virtual get-together for me, like when you play Mario Party, of course, like in Mario Party you "wanna be the very best", but if you're not you can still have some fun - a sentiment you two should agree with gathering from your posts.

  How is using an online battle simulator the same as building a team that took someone four months to "perfect"? This isn't a giant community, and as far as I know, the only person of the 11 people currently participating actually cares about the metagame for Pokemon, and he said that if he wins a copy of the game, he's instead going to opt out of it and donate an equivalent amount of money to a charity game jam.
  
  Even though real prizes are at stake, this really isn't meant to be taken as "super cereal", it's meant to be about having fun with other people on this site.
  
  And trust me, when I randomly pop up to challenge random people, I'll probably be using a joke team, like a Metronome team or something. So that should show that I'm not treating this as a tournament that will rival the VGC, but as something fun to do with other people.
