So apparently, this is an underground trading ring.
What in the hilarious fuck is this.
Oh, you didn't know about that? Yeah. This was an underground trading ring from the darknet that had been collecting and trading celebrity nudes for years. It was a small group because the only way to become a part was to buy your way in with nudes that you obtained yourself, or that were rare - the less people with them the more they were worth. Apparently a couple of the guys decided to reveal their stuff to the public so all rest just went "Fuck it, we might as well just blow the load now."

I got that much. I just never understood the concept of it until just recently.

I can just image it, the guy in a suit browsing 4chan all the time.

Mental damage would be off-the-charts if he does that all the time...
Wouldn't that possibly even make an FBI agent defect to 'the other side' in that case...?

So what do they do about the torrents? I don't think I've ever seen such numbers before.

Nothing can really be done about it. Once something is on the internet, you're not getting it off.
You can send C&D or take to court individual websites or online services that are hosting the content, if they're under the jurisdiction of countries that will cooperate. However you can't change the fact that thousands (if not many millions in this case) of people already obtained the content and will continue to share it.

I wouldn't touch the torrents, btw. Everyone who participates in the torrent at some point can have their IP logged by people connected to the same torrent.

I know. It was a subtle side blow suggesting that their efforts are laughably fruitless.

I don't think downloading these pictures is any more illegal than buying pictures from papparazzo, and people do that all the time. The one picture assumed to be a nude of a youth is deleted in some if not the majority of the torrents.

I heard about that one. From what I understood the person is denying it's her, which means the photos aren't officially under aged. However if she ever does ever turn around and say it's her then under US laws she's in as much trouble as anyone distributing them, for the creation of child pornography.

Crazy laws.
