Windows Installer Missing

This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. You can not register, post or otherwise interact with the site other than browsing the content for historical purposes. The content is provided as-is, from the moment of the last backup taken of the database in 2019. Image and video embeds are disabled on purpose and represented textually since most of those links are dead.

I'm pretty savvy when it comes to self-repair for computers, but this one has me stumped.

Basically, I cannot install any .msi files. I checked the services for the Windows Installer, but it's not listed.

If I try to install a msi file, I get the error message:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. Contact your administrator...etc, etc."

Any tips/suggestions?

Interesting, I never saw that one before.

Regardless, I did #1, and nothing happened.

#2 gives me this problem:

I do not have a previous version, so #3 does not apply.

For extra info, I run Win 8.1.

It wouldn't hurt to do a system file check, either. sfc /scannow in command line with admin rights.

I've done the unreg and register many times, no luck. I'll give the scannow a try though... I can't remember if I ever tried that.

I'm looking through the CBS log, but I'm not finding anything that's relative to my problem... then again, this is a pretty big file, I may be overlooking it.
