For most games no, but if you include game music or any other music you tend to get fucked. That's why my game videos are usually silent. Not dealing with that shit.

I wouldn't bother with nintendo games. Most developers will disclose if they care about there games being monetized or not. Like blizzard for example. They don't give a fuck and say go. I also suggest making multiplayer content. It is more safe when it comes to monetization. Oh, also I suggest turning down the music to avoid copyright strikes. I don't know though if you can still get in trouble for that or not.

Also, I'd recommend having more than one recording software. Some games work better with others. Dxstory is a good one.

Nuzlocke is cool. I wouldn't try zelda games. If you want to talk about zelda games though and where the series is going, then sure.

When it comes to monetizing videos, well I'm sure you can just google some info on that.

no, but it's a bit early to think about monetizing
wait until you have about 1k subs and several thousand views on some of your videos

You need to a have steady viewer ship? It just says I gotta have one video up and I would receive money depending when I reach certain views, so I don't see why it's would be better to it later. I mean earlier is better and that regardless I would still get monetization either way, unless I do have to keep a steady views. Only problem I have at the moment is the written consent, fair use, and etc to use in game footage.

On a side note. Which of these email would I need to email to? To ask for permission use of their content.

You don't have to keep a steady viewership, I can still monetize even when I haven't uploaded shit in ages, all my views are from the vindictus guide I made years ago. Doubt anyone still watch those videos since they're ridiculously outdated.

Well I know I don't take criticism very well but yet, I have 950 subscribers. Most of them don't comment or leave likes and that's the way I like it. Mainly I do it to provide information for the community. I refuse to slap ads on any of my videos in fact. The thing is you want to do something that people want to see. Problem is once you start getting subscribers for a particular kind of content you kind of get stuck with making that kind of content. In my case that would be providing info about the KR Mabinogi Server. Of course, the lack of easy to find English videos on Foreign Content does help with visibility. That's probably the main reason for my success.

Downside now is, if I ever want to focus on Touhou, Minecraft, NA Mabinogi Videos, or Runescape videos, I tend to get a lot of dislikes unless it's Foreign Content. So it's something to be careful of. Don't pigeon hole yourself in terms of content.

As for editing, I tend to use things like Adobe Elements 11 as I find it easier to handle and work with than Windows Movie Maker (Too low end) and Sony Vegas Pro (Too high end, I have no idea how to use the bloody thing) Speed up the boring parts I know people don't want to sit through but still want to show to some degree, cut out things I don't want in the recording. Adding additional music as necessary (don't go overboard and beware of copyright issues). I would also agree with not overdoing it with special effects. KISS (Keep it simple stupid) is your friend.

Recording wise I tend to use Faps myself or Mabinogi Recorder for Mabinogi specifically (It's a pain having to micromanage the Mabi Recorder, but it works for the most part. Faps tends to crash mabi if you don't stop it before a cutscene ends)

Anyways that's all the advice I have based on my experience. Try your best to ignore the comments as they can be difficult to manage at times.

On a more serious note, don't use the Mabinogi recorder, it makes files of a few GB before you know it.
Fraps only records up to 30 seconds until you have a registered version. (unless it's free nowadats)
There's also free things like Hypercam, but those leave a watermark on your videos.

For editting, I personally use Sony Vegas, but as kingofrunes probably knows, it has a steep learning curve, so it might not be your thing. There are quite a few that you can look into to see what you enjoy using most, just don't spend money buying all of them!

Don't focus on making your money out of your channel yet, focus on having fun, if you have to change who you are just to do so then it's not worth it.

Personally, I have a 1TB Hard Drive so plenty of space to deal with Mabi's overly large videos. Processing with software does cut the size down a lot, at which point you can then nuke the original footage. My main issue with Fraps is the fact that it crashes Mabinogi when the cutscene is about to end, otherwise I would use it all the time for Mabinogi. It actually screwed me over in the last video I did when I was trying to record a cutscene for G19. Thought Mabi recorder's time was running on, switched to fraps, didn't end fraps fast enough before the cutscene ended. Original footage and fraps footage became corrupted. Had to use Sony Vegas to get it to become useable for Adobe Elements 11 and Sony Vegas made it really shuddery so I went fudge it and slapped it in out of frustration.

Another bad experience with Sony Vegas pro is that it tended to make my Mabinogi videos all blurry and unstable for some reason. Never have that issue with Adobe Elements 11. So ya, Sony Vegas is very difficult to learn from my personal experience. I personally love Adobe Elements 11 and have yet to be disappointed by it.

So yes, bad experiences from both Fraps and Sony Vegas Pro when it's come to Mabinogi videos for me unfournately. I'll stick with micromanaging Mabi's recorder and dealing with the size issue.

Either way, try out the software that works for you, if you aren't doing Mabi videos you hardly have to concern yourself over Fraps crashing you.

Dxtory for recording is just way better. Can make profiles of settings for different games and it can encode in real time while recording (need good enough specs, I record to an old ssd and my PC kicks ass). Only issue I have with it is it can only record games or apps using DX/opengl. If I want to record my screen for an educational video I have to go find something else.
