I like your work. But as a person that works closely with art students, I'll give my couple thoughts.

1. The face could use a little work. I think the best way to put it is that it seems a bit stretched.

2. Shading contrast. More emphasized (or even a bit exaggerated) shading could make the art even more eye-catching.

3. Just more editing in general. Looking at some parts, especially visible with the zoomed in face. For example, the shades could be a bit smoother.

I actually did this using an older, time-saving style, because I have 4 commissions and a birthday present to finish. If I did it in what I consider my current style, it would probably take at least twice as long. So I just kind of did her entirely on one layer, haha ;; For what it is, I'm fine with it. I'd get more from a commission than the contest is awarding either way.

I still have issues, but before these, it had been literally a year since I "painted" while using lineart. For now I'll just keep fiddling with the style until I'm satisfied.

I personally find illustrator to be the best tool.

SAI's my go-to program, because it's so nice to my computer. The only downside is it is missing some tools that would be nice to have, but luckily it also saves things as PSDs.

yeah, sai is good for getting the basic coloring/painting down
then you save as psd and tweak it in photoshop

Yeah, pretty much. I do wish I could do everything exclusively on one or the other, but that's what makes Photoshop lag occasionally so at the same time I'm glad for the two separate options.
