As a fan of Sword Art Online, I was very excited when I heard the initial announcement that Mabinogi was getting an entire event of smaller events dedicated to one of my favorite anime. That was before. Now that I've played through the event, I'll say that I was thoroughly disappointed by it.
Before you call me an idiot and whatnot, I'd like you to read my reasoning and maybe, just maybe, you'll understand where I'm coming from. If at this point, you still do not agree with me,
feel free to insult me in whatever way you like.
The dungeon event was released first and was the better of the trio. It had a plot modified somewhat from SAO to better fit Mabinogi. It was centered around dungeon spamming, which gets extremely tiring after a while, and the tickets that you get afterward would be used to buy special potions retextured to look like the crystals in Sword Art Online, titles, equipment, and a godly pneuma flower. My problem with this event is that some of the prizes take so many tickets that it's not even worth trying to get. Of course, there is a way to bypass this problem - the System Admin Access Code - which would be useful if it weren't so ridiculously rare. Also, the lower leveled players sadly had no chance at the good stuff in this event due to the higher and thus better rewarding levels of the dungeon would be too difficult for then to complete. Perhaps this could have been remedied if there were some kind of equivalent exchange so multitudes of lower leveled tickets could be traded for a higher level ticket. I personally didn't really care about the combo card maker since I never use combo cards.
I'll keep this section quick and simple, much like the second event. Long story short, Kirito breaks Lizbeth's stuff and apparently the player character has to help by gathering crystalline ingots that fall from the sky while overpowered Kirito solos the white dragon. There is no difficulty in this mission whatsoever since the slayers that spawn can be punched to death by a complete newbie with no problem. Just another half-baked time wasting event.
The fishing event was just that - fishing. Nothing else, just fish for a rare clothing box and fish for the old man. They didn't even have a giant lungfish boss like SAO did. AFK fishing event once again. Nothing much to say here.
While it technically was more of a hot time than an event, the free Yui giveaway had me most excited. All was in vain however, since it was only a temporary Yui.
Overall, the idea was great, but the execution was not.
Now feel free to disagree with me or perhaps add on.

No one will disagree that the event was lame in nearly every way, but I'm sure most people don't care because thanks to it the tryhards now have Asuna/Pina titles and 67th enchant scroll while the fashionogis have all the outfits from their favorite chinese cartoon.

Eiry just got a CP Yui and then AFK fished.
Good event for while Eiry was at work.

Pretty much.
Events and gachapons are the poisons that have been forcing Mabinogi into stagnation. I nabbed everything valuable from the SAO "update" and NOPED the fuck out of there.

When I play other games I see events usually used as a means to complement or promote permanent content as well as activity. When I play Mabi I see either overly rewarding or entirely pointless content used to undermine the game, usually rather poorly done and boring. Not that all Mabi events are bad, it's just most of them.

To be fair there's probably not much Nexon NA could have done about it. All the events come from overseas generally with little or no modification allowed so the lame events they get in Kr/Jp/etc are the lame events we get here :<
So yeah, I'm disappointed too but I'm basically disappointed for every event we get and that's how it'll be for the most part :s I can't remember the last time I actually really liked an event and got into it.
Oh well, at least the hot time rewards weren't bad?

Hot times seemed pretty cool at first, but as of late most events have turned into no-effect events where you either have to be present/log-in or idle until you get your reward. The rewards are great, but I prefer active events such as Imp Dreamland, Dragon Boat Racing, Hillwen Nightmare/Lorraines Nightmare and so forth.
In regards to events as a whole I'd prefer if devCAT took a step back and started looking at the permanent features of the game. I think some of the best updates we've had were revamps, and I'd love to see more.

Dungeon: Repetitive and annoying. Collecting all those zone tickets was retarded, really they could have improved it by letting mobs drop them.
Hot Time Yui: Terrible; she was timed.
Crystal: Lisbeth kept giving me shit recovery pots...
Fishing: Lungfish can't be cooked, and drop rate for swimsuit box was retarded.
Really there could have been improvements to the event.

Not disputing that hot time itself is lame, just that the rewards this time round were fairly decent :p As a cheapass lazy casualfag things like that bag were a godsend lol.
And yeah, I agree with your sentiment with what devcat should do. Lately I feel devcat has just been all "were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, that they didn't stop to think if they should."

SAO dungeons - would have been better if people can team up for higher zones
Fishing event - good ol' classic fishing event
Kirito vs. WD - extremely boring but rewards were exceptionally good (ex: blacksmith training pot, 100% success rate upgrade stone)
SAO gachas - meh
As somone mentioned, fashionogis got their goods, and battlenogis got their 67th, so I guess the event wasn't too bad after all

If the good stuff didn't require like 60 Zone 5 tickets and such,it wouldn't have been so bad...gotta say it was fun to go through stuff like Fiodh Adv without needing a pass though. And considering that I hadn't tried Fiodh Adv prior to the event,it was convenient. Great way to get passes too.
Too bad they didn't have ALL the dungeons in ULadh (minus the castle ones,of course...) be involved with the event. Would've really liked free Barri Adv passes. :smoke2:
Fishing...was just that. Though it helped people start ranking it like crazy.
Crystalline gathering...as was said, good rewards, mostly. And since we can't replay certain Gens,it was nice to get to hear certain specific Final boss themes again.
Gachas...meh. No intention of spending any more money that I don't have. XD

The outfits are nice in general, especially the animations. I like the clothes but I have no intention whatsoever to cosplay Kirito so I dyed it to match me more. I barely used them yet though seeing as too many people are wearing them. The amount of people wearing a Kirito outfit (especially in the same original color complete with the wig) is, no offense, an eyesore. X_x
The SAO gacha...don't get me started. I only got junk whereas people I knew kept getting Yui's and wings as if they were super common for like half the amount of gachas I opened. Then again, gacha is always like that for me, just like any other luck based things in Mabi. It can be kind of aggrivating though.
The dungeon event was mediocre. I liked how they tried to make it sort of SAO styled and the rewards were pretty nice, but in the end there was nothing exciting about it whatsoever. At first my friends and I looked forward to it, thinking we could run them together. Nope.
I remember me and my friend both spamming dungeons for tickets for about 10 hours straight while in a Skype call to keep eachother entertained.. My friend found an admin acces code in the end...I did not. Which further proved to me that random luck in Mabi's universe really does not exist for me, since in the time he ran one dungeon I easily finished two, meaning the odds of me finding one were bigger.
I am lucky though for having amazing friends who always help me out though, since he gave me the code. :D I was planning to get more titles and such and spam more, but after all of that I stopped the dungeons. It was too boring and tedious. I have never been a fan of dungeons that much in the first place. Prefer Shadow missions.
The crystalite collecting was fun to do once just to see Kirito standing next to the ice dragon like a derp and hearing that boss theme again was nice. It bugged me that the website said: Kirito will take care of the white dragon, as if he could take on this dragon alone, I facepalmed. Anime characters always have to be portrayed so ridiculously OP and it is what makes weeaboos ruin RP. Anyway, I tried this mission a few days straight, also on alts, knowing the rewards from Lisbeth could include blacksmith training potion but then deemed it a waste of my time when all I got were MP/HP/Stamina potions, and with my luck being apparently non-existant in Mabi, who was I kidding thinking of even getting one? Or so I figured.
The fishing event was alright, eventhough it was to me a more mediocre fishing event compared to the fashion fishing ones, and I felt that it was really weakly SAO themed. I liked the rewards though, the fishion potions and training seals. If I used one box of bait I usually caught enough fish to complete the daily quest with for a few days. The only hard daily fishing quest was the one that needed the fishes of 99cm and below, but my afk fishing friends were always willing to hand me some of them so I could still complete it. I think I used about 500 bait total, and obviously never caught a swimming suit, but I had not expected that to happen nor did I aim for it. Hearing from how hard they were to catch and with luck being out of the question Mabi for me I am happy I didn't try for it at any rate.

I disliked it to make this short.
It seemed like something just so they could pull a lot of fans into the game that already were not in the game, with the hopes of having a SAO like experience, and the dropping the gachas "Oh get all this SAO stuff if you pay so much money for it" and also the outfits. The amount of people wearing the exact say outfits are horrible! So in the end it seems like just a way to make money off of something people enjoy , while giving some boring events to go along with it.
The Dungeon Capture event:
If you like constantly spamming dungeons and having your inventory filled with stuff you may or may not actually use, this would be for you. Not much to say about this, It's solo and bound to put you to sleep if you cant find something else to occupy yourself with.
You could also fight Heathcliff who would probably be easy for most players with a little experience in combat.
Free Yui:
I feel like the main thing the free yui was made for is to entice you to buy gachas. Cute at least for the 5, 15 ,30 days you might have her?
Crystal collecting:
Hardly interesting. But, hey! Kirito is there! Bringing the dragon towards me and freezing me. At this point i would prefer an event where I could kill Kirito.
The reward for this seemed nonexistent after the first time where you got one of the useful 2nd titles.
Fishing:
I didn't do this but my brother did. It was just a waste of time in my opinion , at least this one you could afk though, and they give you a 100 slot bag when you logged in one day for a hot time! This way you can afk fish for quite a while! The rewards were okay I guess. To be honest though , at this point I would have preferred a fashion fishing event where you could catch random outfits nd have a very small chance to catch the SAO outfits.
By and large this event feels like they put subjects on a dart board, and on another board they had names of SAO characters and just threw until they could get a good match. The second titles are good, but it seems mostly like a event to milk money out of players who like SAO, and for players to test their luck in getting stuff like a system administrators ticket and good stuff out of random boxes or fishing. Overall it just feels like they could have made it a lot better besides just having SAO characters names attached to some event. I personally would have enjoyed atleast one event where you can face a somewhat difficult and long dungeon with friends.
I also wanna applaud everyone who was able to make their SAO outfits look really cool and unique, its really refreshing not to see everybody in the exact same outfit.
