For those who wish, you can add these 3 mods[and 1 core mod] to your mods folder:
Here
This holds:
NEI: To be able to check recipes on the go and item's utilities.
WAILA: Learn the name of the block you're looking at and more.
Journey Map: To see where you are and save way points[And sets death points too].
And it has Chicken Chunks Core, to allow NEI and WAILA to work
[SIZE="1"][WAILA stands for, what am I looking at][/SIZE]

Hey Guys. Found a major problem with the server we were running on. Java 8 was causing big problems for one of the mods leading to a situation where you wouldn't be able to get back on if you came near my base. Thus I had to move the server over to a machine with Java 7 last night.
Server is back up and issue is solved but the IP changed in the process. This is the new IP: 192.99.21.163:26710
Cheers!

Okay I updated thaumcraft to the new 4.2.1 version and add Botania. I also upgraded the forge version.
UPDATE: Reverted adding Botania/Thaumcraft updating and keeping with same forge. Seems there's a bug in the newest update for it :/

Neat. :o
Is the server up now? It's showing up in red on my list.

There was some unexpected problems in updating. There was a crash involving wearing fully charged vis amulets and going near vis relays. So I had to revert everything.

Connection Lost
Mod rejections [FMLMod:Thaumcraft{3.2.1.3}]
Oh, and your forge download link is the wrong version atm. (Not like that's a big deal lol)

It's all being updated anyways. Just booted up the server with new updates to 4 mods and forge update.

Oh good. I've been reading up on botania. Looks interesting.
I still recommend the Chisel mod(
http://minecraft.curseforge.com/mc-mods/224329-chisel-1-7 ) and/or Carpenter's Blocks(
http://www.carpentersblocks.com/ ). Both are updated to 1.7.10, and are purely aesthetic mods that add whole new levels of detail and customization for your builds that aren't possible without them. I mean, carpenters adds SLOPES. SLOPES guys, no more stairs or jumping up ledges! And you can use any block on them to change the texture, so no more worrying around about making your fences and stuff match! And Chisel adds something like 16 different texture options for most blocks, without requiring a texture pack or anything.
Anyway, I just think it would be nice to have them if the server can handle them and they don't interfere with any of the other mods. But then again building cool looking stuff is my favorite part, I spend more time on the place I'm going to stick the magic stuff than I do the magic stuff itself, but maybe that's just me. So anyway, thanks for reading.

So... I've just bought Minecraft and don't really know how to mod it. Normally, I google my way through that kind of issues but this time the amount of different sources (and the fact that some of these contradict each other) has overwhelmed me.
That said, what do I do with these files from the first post?

First you need to instal the forge.
once it is installed you'll be able to change the version of minecraft you are palying to the Forge version
The forge version will load any "mod" you have in the "mod" folder
so you just need to have the remainnig mods all in the mod folder

I get the idea but my problem is somewhere else. I used "forge-1.7.10-10.13.1.1224-installer.jar" from the first post (by choosing "Extract" option) and now I have "forge-1.7.10-10.13.1.1224-universal.jar" in Minecraft directory. There is no mod folder. What did I do wrong?

You shouldn't have extracted it. A .jar file is a java executable file. You just open the installer with Java and it installs Forge.

There had been an installation error (caused by this freshly bought copy containing 1.8 files only) thus I tried extracting. But now I got it installed properly. That was the good news. The bad is, Forge version looks like
this and spawning monsters in 1.8 (creative mode) has stopped working...

Forge should only work for 1.7.10. We don't have 1.8 stable forge yet so the server is 1.7.10 Minecraft, not 1.8.
If you installed it correctly you should see the following things:
