I'm using an elf as my main character, and I'm trying to get some Heavy Armor. The problem is... I don't know how to get something that elves can use. According to the wiki, there are only 2 Elves can use, one gender specified.

If I'm going to assume I have to buy them from another player... How much am I looking at?

Yeah the Royal Knight armor is a good choice, also since you can get it with adventure seals.
On every Saturday the seal merchant sells all pieces of the set.
Royal Knight Armor for 350 seals. Royal Knight Gauntlet for 80 seals. And the Royal Knight Boots for 80 seals.
I use this armor on my elf and I am quite happy with it.

Just remember that if you are going with the archery route then you probably shouldn't rank Heavy Armor Mastery past rank F since elves have a -50% Dex penalty.

While that makes sense, it would probably be best for the OP to wear light armor/cloth armor when doing archery. Otherwise, build up your dexterity so that it won't be such a huge issue with balance if you choose to rank mastery past Rank F.
Agreed with all the previous posts about Royal Knight. I hear it's pretty decent to use as a mage.

All in all, heavy armor isn't a great investment. It's not terribad, but it's not something that I would recommend.
As you raise your character, your damage will increase, and eventually, you will pretty much one shot everything, have it be ranged, magic, puppet, etc. The stronger you become, the less relevant heavy armor is. Yes, you can invest a heavy armor now, but at the end, it won't help you much. Basically, it's a wasted investment in the end.
I'd just stick to bohemian set, and use languhiris circlet and rosemary gloves when you need to mage.
