I haven't seen an exact drop rate posted anywhere, really.
I tried the wiki but that got nothing.

Rather than drop rate, isn't it just 5 wood per tree? (Or stump)
That is like asking if Cotton/Eggs have drop rate. They do, but it isn't something to be worry about.

I'm pretty sure you have a chance of getting average firewood instead of regular firewood from the stumps.

Oh, I got confused with "regular" firewood with the supposed "average" firewood. I believe average firewood had less of a chance to get from stumps, but the total is still around 5 wood per stump. At least, it was 5 wood per stump when I tried to rank Carpentry by chopping stumps.

The drop rate appears to increase as you rank up higher and higher. I'm rank 4 now and compared to how often I got average wood at rank F-C, it's much better, though hard to come up with any solid numbers.

How hard is it to get to rank 1 carpentry? Compare it to getting to rank 1 weaving if you can. I haven't done weaving, but I hear it is VERY tedious work.
Please chime in if you have reached rank 1 carpentry, but if you have heard of experiences of friends or guild members, that info would still be helpful.
I'm planning on starting carpentry after 1 more rank of AR.

Carpentry is very tedius to rank. I would compare it to Weaving.
Melee users will rank it for the added strength. Archers might rank it to use the new ammunition types (if you can even make them, that is -.-) I doubt anyone plans to sell the bows.

Are there hell ranks in carpentry?
Reviewing everything, it seems more like ranking refine than ranking weaving.

e.e what kind of meeler am i?
i finished refine and weaving with a lot of motivation and didn't find it that tough as ppl described, but Carpentry.... I'm too lazy to do it. lol

I would say the first hell rank is rank 9, but really should take about 13hours nonstop chopping. The first real hell rank I would say is rank 6, simply because you can't rank up just from making the wood and bows, you need to chop 11.00 worth of exp, with 0.04 for average, and 0.10 for fine, so it'd take a while.
At rank 4 the difficulty jumps, because of the "Successfully create Fine Grade Bow. ", which you have to complete 25 times by spamming Short Bows (assuming you finished the other requirements excluding 1000 Fine Wood). On average on mondays, I was making 1 "Fine Grade Bow" out of 10, so you can see it's a lot of spamming. A "Fine Grade Bow" basically requires the description to say "A bow of godly qualities has been made", (it'll be sigged and +2-3dura)
Subsequent ranks, though I haven't reached them yet (still on 4), the number of "Fine Grade Bows" required to rank up becomes less and less.
Hope this helped, correct me if I'm wrong please ^^

Thanks! This is gonna help me see what's coming when I start ranking the skill myself.

Just for reference, around C-A ranks, my observed chopping rates are...
85% Firewood
12% Average Firewood
3% Fine Firewood
It seemed similar to that even at lower ranks, so I'm not sure if wood cutting actually improves. Then again if people say it gets more a lot more Fines at higher ranks, then it probably does.

Could be observational bias. Higher ranks it seems you end up chopping a lot more wood. Seeing more fine, etc wood in your inventory can lead you to believe that.
