How do you handle moving to a new place? Like, you're looking for a place to live, but you've never lived there before. So you don't know what a good price for a place is, or which neighborhoods are good/safe, or where all the prostitutes hang out, etc. There are just all these questions you have and you can only answer so many with research, I mean you can google the neighborhood and all the reviews may say it's the best thing ever then after living there for a week you realize it's a total hellhole and you'll probably be dead in a month, but it's too late now you already signed the lease for a year.
How do you handle that shit? How do you move to a new place without getting murdered?
Talk to people who live there that you trust. I'm travel all the damn time as active duty and we're briefed on the operating environment prior to deployments and upon arrival to new assignments. I pack light, all of my earthly possessions fit in three average-sized (30~65 lbs) bags.
A bit of research will go a long way but i've found that it's best to get your information from a more recent source. Leadership occasionally briefs us on stuff that's obsolete according to people who are already where we're headed. It's an issue of obtaining information from top-down versus bottom-up; much like media can project an image from the outside facing in, so can you seek information from the inside looking out.
Food for thought.
