Baby Rat

  He's about the size of a really fat adult mouse right now too young to be on his own
  My dog brought him in and besides being slobbery he had no signs of injury but I thought he'd die from stress because he wasn't eating or drinking so I set a heating pad under one side of the cage and covered most of it so he could destress. Rats and mice usually don't live long without food and water, usually only a day or so so I expected him to be dead but instead I uncovered him while he was eating the soft food I provided. I THINK he'll be okay and hopefully I can release him in a few weeks when he's old enough.

  I wanted a rat pet when I was younger but then learned they leave an infinite trail of urine wherever they go as a sort of navigation thing so i decided to just appreciate their cuteness from a safe, urine-free distance.

  my biggest concern is that i haven't seen him drink yet
  he's somewhere between 2 and three weeks old, I'm thinking about 16 days and so he's no where near independent

  Rats don't pee and shit nearly as much as mice, when holding them they'll usually try to get off of you before doing their business
  It becomes pretty easy to tell when they need to be put back to pee and shit
  
  Mice pee and shit like every 5 minutes, they're not good pets to hold and play with for this reason, but sometimes males will mark you.
  If any of you ever decide to get a rat, take this advice get females or don't keep more than two males together
  
  Honestly I can see why people hate pest rats but when it comes to pet rats I don't understand the fear. They're incredibly smart, very affectionate, and aren't costly at all. I've always suggested those who can't get cats or dogs because of housing restraints to get a rat.

  She's not out of the woods yet, she's sneezing which could be an RI which will kill her. We'll see how she's doing the in morning, baby rodents are extremely sensitive and fragile and no one cares for them quite like their moms

  My boss had a pet rat before. He lived for a good while. Sweetest little guy ever, I hope your baby one pulls through Hanna!

  I would be very pissed if a pet rat bit me or gave me a disease or a parasite. You did take that rat to the vet didn't you?

  It's a baby, baby rodents don't bite
  No vet in the area will check out a wild rat and when she's old enough she's going back in the woods to do her rat thing
  As with any animal, always wash your hands after touching them.
  She's doing great this morning, she's eating and drinking, running around and cleaning herself. Sniffles have disappeared, this is a good sign.

  They eat up and contaminate all the stock of the village and then everyone starves or gets sick. If we let them run their course probably everyone would starve.
