S.510 deceptively titled “Food Safety and Modernization Act†written by and for Monsanto lobbyists
Alan Villegas
Official Wire
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
The words “homeland security†are found 41 times in the text of the bill S. 510, also known as the Food Safety Modernization Act. Unprecedented powers over food are set to be handed over to Homeland Security if the bill is not stopped.
The bill opens opens the door to even more federal control over the everyday lives of American citizens. Since they are already engaging in organic raw milk raids without the increased powers of S. 510, the question is going to be how many more guns-drawn raids are we to expect after the bill becomes law?
It gets worse. Not only does the bill grant the FDA more power, Michael R. Taylor was named deputy commissioner for foods at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in January 2010.
Michael R. Taylor also worked for Monsanto, was a lobbyist for them, according to Wikipedia. And all of this activity is happening at a time when a flourishing self-sufficiency movement is taking hold in this country, at a time when demand for fresh, local, and organic food is at an all time high.
The question is: Do America’s small farmers want a pro-Monsanto lobbyist in charge of the nation’s food supply?
The answer is clear and this may turn out to be a draw-the-line-in-the-sand moment for many people. May God bless America!

Control Of Food Supply To Be Handed Over To Department Of Homeland Security
Hmm... it looks like DHS isn't referred to by some as "Department of Homeland
Stupidity" for nothing!

How authentic are these anyway? The more I keep seeing these posted, the more I wonder if its just some Christian crap trying to stir things up like the world's going to end tomorrow. Which means you need to be a Christian like rite nao or you're going to hell, blah blah. If it's authentic then fine, but if it's not, then I highly disapprove of these scare tactics.

The vast majority of hoaxers out there know better than to feed people an outright fabrication. Most of the time they'll use grains of truth that have been magnified vastly out of proportion. I wouldn't be surprised if the article were true, but yellow journalism is the name of the game -- use strong words with certain connotations to invoke a desired feeling about the subject ("raid", "control", etc., even the "draw-a-line-in-the-sand" phrase).

They got some facts wrong in that blog. Its not the FDA. Its the FSA, Food Saftey Administration. A to be created government organization. Also its not under the DHS, its under the Department of Health and Human Services. Most importantly, this FSA has not even been created yet, so no one can be appointed to head it up yet. This bill aims to create this FSA.
It just sounds too much of a fear-mongering post.
This post just attacks one person without talking about the bill at all. Which the attacks are totally unrelated since the person in question isn't even in charge of the FSA, since it has not been establish.
Even though I don't agree with purpose of the bill, I also don't agree with this blog post.
Its not an issue about Masanto, its about small independent farmers.

This is the Internet, and people can and will harass
you over what you choose to post. Better to do a little background checking before you share. =)
