  My friend has a Thoroughbred and a Griffin so it's not a problem for him.
  Although the Eagle summon time kind of draws me away, and closer to a magic carpet.

  That's a little harsh dont'cha think? Some people don't have access to NX cards and since when did which mounts you had determine your fighting ability? I've fought with several people who do perfectly fine in dungeons runs without any pets.
  
  iAki, Pelican and Magic Carpet are nearly the same. Same bag space, both two-seaters and Pelican only has 1 more summoning minute than Carpet. Although the Carpet does have slightly better base stats but I don't think that matters. So whichever one you like, methinks. I personally don't care for the Eagle myself either.

  IMO, it's better than an Eagle in my eyes.

  You can be as powerful as you want, but without pets your abilities are limited. Every top-tier player, without exception, uses pets for aggro control. Not necessarily MOUNTS per se, but pets in general. Mounts speed up the dungeon by cutting down the time between rooms, which many parties abuse heavily (and not all parties will be bothered to wait for that one guy who has no mounts).
