I think it's terrible.
Just thinking of "gaming culture" makes me cringe because the first few images that pop into my head are these
[Image: http://sd.keepcalm-o-matic.co.uk/i/true-gamers-never-die-we-respawn.png]
Reason why I asked this because someone recently said "Video game music > film music" and the first thing that came into my mind was "ugh, gaming culture". The reason of course was terrible, the person picked out a very composer and surprise surprise he didn't enjoy the composer's work and said "Yeah, lots of people like this composer and I don't, film music isn't that memorable because of it"
And whenever I think of gaming culture I'm reminded of people like him that feel that they have to make it out to that their hobby is better than everything else at everything.
I also don't like episodes centered video games like what Futurama, and I don't really like music about video games like this

Also more cringe

Anyone feel the same?

Nope, I dont feel the same way at all.
While I dont fully agree to everything other gamers might say of the gamer culture, I still think of myself as a gamer and I usually enjoy that kind of culture.
I get the feeling you are focusing a little too much on the idiots we have in our culture and as you can probably tell, Idiots exist everywhere, careless of culture, country, age, sex, belief and such.
Things like musical preference is in the end only a Preference. There is no good or bad, there is just you like it or you dont like it(and any level inbetwen those two)

I don't think gamer culture should be defined by game titles, it's a life style, how you play, how much you play. Some people do speedrun, others min max... That's what I think gamer culture is, not what game they play or which system they use.

Every type of culture is usually filled with idiots. Why? Because they're people who decide to define themselves as belonging to one certain thing and for some reason that starts to make them lose perspective on how stupid they're being. For gamer culture in specific, since things such as anime and gaming require literally nothing but to sit on your ass and stare at a screen and press buttons, it is naturally more saturated with people who are socially awkward or mentally disabled or just straight up douchebags who think they're better than you over stupid shit like what console you use or what game you play or whatever.
The problem with people who define themselves in a certain culture is that they think their hobby > everyone elses. Literally every hobby I have's culture is filled with idiots like this. To use myself as an example I play a shitload of games, love BMWs, am an engineering student, and primarily listen to heavier metal music. Literally all those those things I listed everyone hates because of the culture that revolves around them. Apart from the gaming shit everyone thinks BMW drivers are snobby assholes who think they're driving a sports car because they own an entry luxury car, all engineering students are assholes who look down upon pretty much everyone just because of the degree they're taking, and metal heads are constantly arguing amongst each other which band can chug the hardest while doing the fastest sweeps on guitar. They're all equally retarded.
Just don't define yourself as being a part of any culture and laugh at the silly people who do, there's no point of arguing with them because they won't change from some guy trying to tell them different on the internet.

Being a close-minded asshole isn't part of gaming culture, it's part of being an asshole.

*shrug*
I never thought of gaming in terms of a unified culture. The idea doesn't really represent reality well, by which I mean it represents fuck all. I'm a thorough gamer with more years of gaming under my belt than many members of "gaming culture" have lived, and there are gamers who have more years of gaming under the belt than I have lived. And generation isn't the only divider. Different nations experience gaming in different ways (Doritos and Mountain Dew don't even have a niche presence in Germany and many other countries!), fans of different genres and gaming environments experience gaming in different ways.
People can't even agree on what platform is the best for gaming (obv. PC, duh).

Doesn't bother me.
Although I dislike Doritos and Mountain Dew.

I don't think anything of gamer culture in that sense because there's nothing to think about.
As far as I'm concerned you either play video games a lot, a little, or not at all. We could also say some people play "too much" but that's a matter of opinion for the most part.
Video games are part of our culture, but playing them doesn't make you part of a new culture.
People can be fans of video games just like people can be fans of sports, TV, movie franchises or anything else. How they express that fandom also doesn't make them part of a culture of some kind. They'll either be decent people or annoying fucktards (example: 99% of bieber fangirls = annoying fucktards).

Pretty much what Osay said.
The "gaming culture" stuff reeks of the SJW things we've been seeing as of late.

How do you spend your free time? Hiking? Reading? Watching television? All of the above?
When you remove all of the things that eat up our schedule we're ultimately left with a relatively small chunk of time to pursue our passions. Humans are social animals and we love to share information. The majority of these diversions could be perhaps discussed in some level of detail with an aficionado but most are relatively exclusive. Media is unique in that it can be readily exploited regardless of inherent cultural influences. The sheer complexity of the medium, with each entry being more than capable of supporting an entire wiki site, is only ever rivaled by sports and major entries in other mediums.
I've always said that the intelligence of a mob is equal to the root of its stupidest member. That's the perception of "gaming culture". Our interest is more modern and heavily ties into communications technology. I've reached the assumption from skimming through YouTube videos and Facebook posts that nearly everyone is an ignorant asshole. Gamers aren't more vocal, it's simply easier to hear what you're listing to, and right now the spotlight is on us.

The only time 'gamer' culture has ever irked me is when the media uses it to shine all of us in a pisspoor light because some asshole flew off the handle and killed someone and they just so happened to play lots of video games.
Besides that the only time anything 'gamer' related pissed me off is the whole 'gamer girl' shtick. I was raised to treat women with respect and hold them above men in many terms, chivalry ect, but just because you have a vagina and breasts doesn't justify you being an obnoxious thundercunt and think you can get anything you want. Although sadly a lot of women have found out they can in fact do this because of the amount of horny desperate men white knighting on the internet.

While it certainly can be influential, I wouldn't put gaming as having it's own culture, it's just another hobby that people swoon over.
Though, if I were to view the gaming community, and give my opinion on them, it would be pretty generic. A lot of people are idiots, a lot of people aren't, that's life, and that's the gaming community as well.
