Is magic crafting and my R1 blacksmithing/tailoring good together?
Blacksmithing is still pretty relevant as you can make shurikens to sell to other players.
As for other means, engineering is also good.

Magic is in a really good spot right now. All talents are at a competitive level, though archery is slowly becoming antiquated. The new raids and talents are pretty fun.

Basically, you missed nothing. Ghost-servers make it really hard to fullfill daily Divine Order requirements though. The interest in raids is falling rapidly.
