Due to shows like Sword Art Online, Akame ga Kill, Mahouka, Black Bullet, and other over-hyped series that aired in 2014, I feel like a lot of really awesome stuff has been overlooked. Thus I have taken it upon myself to complain about it. So without further ado, here are all the most underrated series this year:
Nobunaga the Fool: I can't think of any other series that has Cesare Borgia and Julius Caesar battling to the death in giant robots.
Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka?: This is the MOST ADORABLE SHOW EVER CREATED. EVER.
Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de aru: This is the best mahou shoujo I have ever seen (even better than Madoka).
D-Frag!: This is one of the funniest shows ever.
Hitsugi no Chaika: The main character is a white haired girl with massive eyebrows who carries a magic sniper rifle around in a coffin. She is also unable to speak in complete sentences which adds to the moe factor.
Sabagebu: The main character is the biggest troll ever. Which is something you don't see too often.
[S]Rail Wars:[/S] This show sucks, don't watch it.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. I will never understand why people outside of Japan hold Naruto and Bleach to a higher level then JoJo.
The Garo anime is pretty cool too. Although I could be biased since I'm in love with the original live-action series.

I'd say Rage of Bahamut. People might think you're crazy when you say that something based on mobile card game is the best anime of this year, but it's true.

I'd put it on the same level, really. They're both awsome.

Barakamon and Bokura Kawai-sou are no doubt my favorite anime that aired in 2014.
Barakamon is probably one of the comfiest anime I have ever seen in my life, and I will definitely be putting it in my "comfy anime" folder along with Yuyushiki and Hidamari Sketch. I don't usually watch anime featuring male protagonist, but seeing as Barakamon's protagonist was very goal-oriented and had many realistic flaws-- considering that the anime itself wasn't romance oriented and didn't have anything near a "harem".. Giant breath of fresh air in my honest opinion. Naru, who I'm thinking is the cutest little girl in 2014, is actually voiced by a little girl as well, and I think she did a great job in doing so.
Bokura Kawai-sou took me by surprise as it yet again features a likeable male protagonist, though he is surely an easy self-insert for male viewers. Not much to say about this one, and although it does have many of the dumb cliches I tend to avoid, they pulled them off really well and made the anime watchable. Kawai Ritsu, the protagonist's love interest is really cute and you can't help but root for the protagonist as he deals with his weird-roomates and Ritsu, who he falls in love with at first-sight.
After the greatness that was DokiDoki Precure, you'd think that this year's Precure would have a hard time following up, but nope-- Happiness Charge is just as great as DokiDoki, so I'm putting that there as well. Probably not "underrated", but I think it certainly has gone under the radar.

But that's not a 2014 anime.

Argevollen. Not your average mech anime...although it does suffer from a very slow start.

I thought Argevollen was only average, personally. It's watchable for a mecha fan, I guess... but not something I'd recommend to others, tbh.

What's that mech anime that had the eels in the swimming pool episode?

I did, I'd like to see Kyoani make more stuff like this. The lower amount of fanservice was pretty refreshing.
