Hello Nation! I hope this is the right place on the forum for this sort of thing. (Sorry to the mods if not!)
I wanted to do something to give back to the community that has been a part of my life for such a long period of time and while I don't play actively anymore, I still find myself coming back to play during breaks or just to hang out with friends that I've made while playing and catch up on life.
With another year approaching and with the spirit of the winter holidays, a sentimental side to many of us is brought out. So with that, I'd like to celebrate memories.
Unfortunately, I only have mabinogi gold to give to those on Alexina. However, if you're on another server and would still like to participate you're more than welcome to and to do with the prize as you see fit.
So the entry to this contest is simple, explain why mabinogi is special to you or share a memory (any form of media welcome) from mabinogi that is special to yourself and tell us about it.
If you're entering the contest please have "2015" written in your post somewhere so we know you're entering! The contest ends January 7th, 2015 at 11:59PM and winners will be announced the next day. I will be contacting one of the lovely forum mods to do the number draw of the winners for the sake of integrity.
There will be six winners. Each winner will receive 1 million in mabinogi gold.
I wish everyone here on nation a safe, healthy, and happy new year. :ran_girl1:

I have so many memories with this game, I was simply a kid back then playing. I still remember getting my first robe which was a Layard muffler robe and to this very day, I still have it with me for 4 soon to be 5 years and within that robe carries every single fun moment I have meeting many people on Ruairi. Heck, I even met the famous Maplestory player Loopedd playing.
When I first started playing, I didn't think that as a game, Mabinogi would grow into something that became personal for me. Having met a lot of people during the past years i've played, I can definitely say that the people i've met on the game have impacted me on a personal level in more ways than I would've expected.
These people are more or less the reason i'm still actively playing on Mabinogi! My guildies have been like a second home and family to me for the past year i've been with them, and I love them all so so so much. Some of those which I've met, outside or within the guild, I've had the opportunity to get to know on quite the personal level as well. Words can't express how thankful I am for those people, and i'm sure they know who they are!

I hope I can continue meeting people like that in the upcoming year, because they've all become a blessing to me that i'm deeply grateful for.
In addition to the people that i've met, I also became interested in taking a ton of daily/weekly screenshots from the game I love and have had numerous memorable moments in.
I even made a Tumblr for that eventually! Maybe when I permanently retire from the game one day, I'll look back and drown in some sentimental feelings.
I honestly thought I would seriously retire when other games with prettier graphics came out, but I think I appreciate Mabinogi's cute (and cardboardy at times) graphics the way it is. I didn't think i'd be interested in taking screenshots of a game with outdated graphics in comparison to much prettier games i've played before (TERA, Aion), but I ended up doing so and it brought me so much happiness wrestling with an outdated yet still adorable style of graphics.

I wish I could participate, but I forgot why I thought Mabi was special many years ago. Now its just become a thing that I can't quit because if I do I'll feel like the time and money spent on it were wasted.

Oh man, where do I begin?
Mabinogi is indeed, something special to me, I view it more then just a game(As silly as that sounds). Out of all the other MMOs I've played, I highly doubt I'll put as much effort, time or money(...) that I've poured into Mabinogi.
The main aspect I love about Mabinogi is the Combat and Skill system, it's very unique and fun(depending on what class you prefer), I just hope the devs start working on actual content, because I've grown bored with what we currently have. I also like the fact that you can use any weapon/skill, and not being locked into one class/gender/ect.
Other then that, close friends, guildies and youtube keeps me going.
Well, since we're closing in on 2015, lets hope for a brighter future for mabi!

I grew up with Mabinogi character and it grew with me.
Although all games allow your character to level up and grow by improving skills, most to all restrict you to one skillset at a time. The most flexibility I've seen in other games is the option to switch skill trees but not use more than one at a time. Much like my Mabinogi character who could access multiple skillsets (and eventually master them), I strive not only to be good at Business, but also branch out into Cooking and Design (of which I hope to master!).
Mabinogi is also unique (correct me if I'm wrong) in that it allows you to communicate with players in other servers. This mirrors my offline friend network as I have friends across the country (which sometimes feels like an entirely different world). I really enjoy Mabinogi in this aspect because the communication line across servers seems to shorten the distance, much like instant messengers do for my long-distance friends.
Mabinogi equalizes the playing field (to a great extent, but not completely) between casual players and professional players. Many games place level or skill restrictions on their equipment. Mabinogi puts age restrictions on clothing (like seriously, it's a joke) and master talent requirements on demonic weapons (it's reasonable, considering the power difference between them and other weapons), but they are few and far in between. This narrows the gap between players who do not have much time to commit (like me) and players who spend half of their waking hours on Mabinogi (...), as it allows the former to specialize in acquiring equipment to reach a similar level to the latter. I realize that this system has its disadvantages, as it strongly reinforces the freemium model (think reforges), but it is so refreshing to be able to clear a room at the same speed as someone with twice as many r1 skills as you.
In my honest opinion, Mabinogi is a dying game. It has been and is continuing to be a "cash cow" in Nexon's portfolio.
For those of you who have taken a Marketing class, cash cows (Maplestory is also a cash cow) provide the cash for the company to invest in new operations (right now, this is Dirty Bomb; in the past, it was Dungeon Fighter).
What needs to happen is this: another company recognizes Mabinogi for its valuable pieces (e.g. combat system, character customization) and convinces (or buys out) DevCat to shed its horrible pieces (e.g. bosses whose only redeeming feature is heavy stander, outdated graphics, the plethora of ignored glitches). Only then will Mabinogi shine to its fullest potential and only then will new players come for the uniqueness and veteran players stay for the content. Because let's face it, all these new Generations, Gachas and events are just gimmicks to attract new players to flashy, cool-looking, anime-following skills, clothing, and monsters.
However, a game's real value is in its mechanics, its player interaction, and its lasting features. This is what makes Mabinogi special.
Oh yeah, 2015.

Most of the stuff I wanted to say has been said already. I made my account 1-2years back then and the first time I tried Mabinogi. It was like hell...so laggy, couldn't move and I thought it was a 2D side-scrolling game since I couldn't move the camera angle all because of my dull old stupid PC, but this year 6months ago I got a new hardware to try Mabinogi on since i was out of MMOs to play and I know that I will be playing this forever until it lasts.
I have made many emotional memories from all over the place. Meeting new friends people, learning about new things and Mabinogi is just ..ugh one heck of a game where once you start, you know even though MMOs like Blade and Soul for example etc will make you retire one day , but Mabinogi its like part of my life now lol...Its special and unique in its own way(P.S much better than Facebook :3). Honestly it has the best in-game community I have ever seen
I have met countless people who were so nice to me and its those people which make the game playable for others. I wish I could describe every single moment of Mabinogi into words, but i'm not very good at expressing things that way, but we all get the point. Hopefully Mabinogi continues for more years to come and we continue to meet nice people and have great in-game adventures. I also gotta hand it to the storyline and content - its amazing!
For those of you who play on Tarlach server and wish to add me , feel free ;o - Zainuchiha
Happy new year in advance - 2015 (time goes by fast...)

For me, what makes Mabinogi special comes back to when I joined. A friend of mine from another game told me about Mabi, and when I tried it, at first my comp was making the game fog over like silent hill almost, but at the same time I felt a sense of wonder and amazement at the beautiful art style of the game, and how it reminded me a bit of my all time favorite Megaman games, Legends and Legends 2. I first started playing back in 2008, a bit before g3 was out, back when we had to pay for the main story quests. When they became free it was like a godsend to me because of how it meant I no longer had to keep a subscription style payment in order to keep my paladin form. When we god Dual Wielding it gave me even more amazement which continues to this day with each new generation. It's hard to put into words what exactly makes Mabinogi special for me, it was the second mmo i ever played, and to this day is the one mmo I always come back to, I've tried others, but they don't grip me as much as the art style, story, and control style of Mabinogi. Even guild wars 2 I only go back to recently when I find out that the super adventure box is active. But with mabi, The divine knights generation has given me reason to get on almost daily to earn those adventurer seals needed so I can upgrade my armor and not feel like I'm the squire and the npc knights are the real hero people. Camile Spirit armor is good and all, but compared to knight npcs of this generation, i feel lacking, especially when one of them praises me as a hero. I don't feel deserving of his praise as it is since my current armor isn't as amazing as his.
2015 year of the Divine Knights.

How I first saw Mabinogi?
First time I've seen "Mabinogi" was probably in year 2004 or 2005 in Nexon Game Festival.
I went there so I can get some free NX and Maplestory giveaway stuff but I remember seeing an anime-looking new game booth called "Mabinogi". I remember a boothlady gave me a paperfan with Nao on (by that time I was curious as fuck who this big-boobed lady was). I wasn't interested in playing Mabinogi however because of age limit to play Mabinogi, and most importantly, I was more hooked to Maplestory by that time :)
How I actually started
Well, my IRL friends dragged me to Mabinogi.
At first I did not like the game system itself (ex: training skills, stat grinding, absurdly hard combat system) but I really enjoyed in-game contents, like playing instruments/composing/campfire chats. I really enjoyed G1-G3 generation storylines but they were EXTREMELY difficult. Hell, I'd had to look for a 100cm+ rainbow trout? for Paladin Passive Defense skills. Also, if I get tired of doing G1-G3 quests, I can head down to Tir circle or Alby arena to chill myself down!
Best Memories in Mabi
-First tailoring master in Wolf server (2010)
-Making a first Rosemary gloves in Wolf server (2011)
-Mabi Fantasy Party
-Meeting my guild members

Worst Memories in Mabi
-Breaking up with KR Mabi waifu (we actually dated irl later for a year and half)
-Accidentally feeding a sigged Rosemary Gloves to my female bow ego (it gave 156 dex)
-Friends quitting Mabi
...So why is this game so special to me?
Mabinogi is pretty much the only game that I can laugh and cry about,
only game I've met my Mabi friends in real life
one of less pay-2-win Nexon games in my opinion
...and literally a game that balances in social/combat life.
Also hope 2015 will be as good as last year! (Happy new year 2015 btw)
As someone said above, I pretty much grew up with my Mabi character.

I've been playing mabi ever since I was a child back in the day, from 2009 to 2015. I have to say this game alone always put a smile on my face. From the login music to the community it was the most enjoyable time I have spent. I enjoyed how it was a fun "free" game with low pc specs to run. So cheers to everyone who feels the same way.

I've been actively playing Mabi since I started high school. The game allowed me to make friends in a way I've never been able to in real life until relatively recently. Mabi has helped me through drama, loss and my own mental illness. While it's far from a perfect game with it's share of bugs, connectivity issues and the thievery of NX on my wallet I can easily lose hours in this game and I've never regretted the amount of time I've put into it.
The combat system is unique, the ability to make your character as strong as possible is something that is sorely lacking in western MMO's. While I spent significant time away from Mabi it is the only game that I can come back to no matter what. Being able to kick ass and look cool while doing it, now that's where it's at. I love my friends and guildies and wouldn't trade this game for any other.
