Nintendo and GungHo Online Entertainment are teaming up to merge the wildly successful mobile puzzle game Puzzle & Dragons with Super Mario Bros. and, in the process, print a lot of money for both companies.

I'm interested.
I've never heard of Puzzles and Dragons but this sort of looks like puzzle quest with mario themes.

It's a pretty popular smartphone game. I think the article said like, 38 million downloads worldwide or something? Basically you get monsters, make a team with them, kill monsters, level up your monsters, kill stronger monsters. And all the fighting is done with the gem-matching-thing. We had a thread about it a couple months ago, but I'm not sure what page it's buried on.

PAD's been on my phone for 683 days, or so it counts. Out of all the really bad clones and apps in the App store, this one is certainly a jewel in the rough and is worth a try, at the very least. They're quite generous with their premium currency, giving them out during events which happen every other week. Then again compared to other mobile freemium games I've tried, PAD's more reliant on the gachapon component, since the God monsters are the only ones worth getting, and can only be obtained from the gachapon component except for those that are dungeon-exclusive. The game's fun, but it's a giant grindfest because JRPG componentslololol(it's easier now though). I've put in so much progress on this I can't really just drop it at this point; plus it's something to do on your phone while you wait for a ride or something, anything.
About the collab: It's interesting that Nintendo is collaborating with Gungho, but then again Gungho released their PADZ variant of PAD on the 3DS, so it's not suprising that they would collaborate especially since Gungho has over 10% of the population of Japan playing their mobile game so big bucks for both.

Looks like they're localizing it to the US for sure, with PADZ as well.

Picked up PAD last month and I love it! Ironically, I was able to pull my favorite monster during my first godfest. Love the mobile game, but not sure if I'll be picking up either game. Maybe though.
