And it's not something that relate to logic but more with emotions. if you want logic so much become an extreme utilitarian.
Through you may not be able to understand my personal example, maybe a different example would be easier to understand
You can die right now without any pain or... you can be saved after 9 years but during those 9 years there will always have 3 people kicking you in the guts, on the legs, on your face and all sort of other place, They are wearing shoes and are kicking with their as if they mean it.
You`ll probably live 30-50 more years afterward but is it really worth going through those 9 years?
The future you might be able to have a nice life afterward but the current you only has hell on earth coming for them.
I'm sorry but your example this post and last post were both extremely misguided... First of all nobody is going to kill themselves because they're going to have to grow out their hair again, otherwise it's probably better they've been removed from the gene pool. Second of all sympathy =/= condoning idiocy, if someone wants to kill themselves because of something as petty as losing their hair then they are obviously mentally ill (although I can see why someone would want to die rather than going through chemo if it's a low chance/only increases their life span by a minimal amount... but this particular girl is obviously not in her right state of mind). Third of all applying logic to situations does not make you a utilitarian of any sorts, I think you've got your terminology mixed up... "Utilitarian: The doctrine that actions are right if they are useful or for the benefit of a majority". Fourth of all your second analogy is completely irrelevant to what anyone is talking about in this thread because it is WAY too much of an exaggeration... chemo does not have any parallels to what you said apart from pain (but that does not last for 9 years and there's no kicking of your face and genitals etc) and neither does growing your hair.
I'm pretty sure alot of people would opt out and prefer to die given the situation of being beat up for 9 years straight, but as I said it's irrelevant to anything said here since it is such an exaggerated argument and will probably never happen to anyone here.
