In pre-G1 and G1 there was a lot more teamwork than now, even for me, and I'm a solonogi player.
I remember having full parties for rabbie dungeon because we didn't know anything about the AI of skeletons and if you got hit by them your massive HP bar of about 50 or so HP would go into deadly.
Also lots of parties for G1 quests, and on tuesdays everyone would be crowding in TNN for red gem dungeon to get gold.
These days you summon a pet and the skeletons go back to their graves.
Yep. I bet if Mabi Re really was back in G1-3 and not G13, people who think Rabbie would be a joke won't know the first thing about enemy AI. I mean sure, they'd probably try spamming windmill, and then go low health. But G13 doesn't sound like a good selling point for them. Maybe if it was G3 or G8 then it would be worth consideration.

I highly doubt any Generation would be worth consideration.
There is a huge flaw in their private server. They picked the wrong game to do private server. It takes too long to build a character up, and they aren't offering high enough bonus. Why spend so much time to build up something on a server that is just going to disappear at any time?
If you go down to like the lower generations, you can't even rebirth weekly...

For those curious, the plug was unexpectedly pulled on this server.
It didn't reach the owner's unreasonable expectation of 500 players online within less than a month, so he decided to jump ship.
You guys got your wish. ;_;

Was pretty silly of him to expect more players than the entire Tarlach server's population.

Good. Hopefully someone makes a new one and does the RIGHT THING.
Update rapidly from wherever it starts, customize some of the content, make it more like a new game or version of mabi, rather than just a private server of a game that's three steps from being a sandbox of the highest caliber.
They probably wouldn't be able to get to the latest game content. More likely than not what happened is server-side software for mabi was leaked, and those files were for G13. After reverse engineering that you an get it working and have people connect and play, but adding anything new would be quite limited. Things like NPCs and basic in-game events.
Changing game mechanics would require a damned good reverse engineering team capable of dismantling the whole thing and rebuilding it from scratch, much in the way ragnarok online was for private servers. On top of that, building your own server side files from scratch would make it slightly more legal, so long as you don't call it mabinogi and don't distribute the client.

The big problem came from how unreasonable the server owner was.
He did not know anything about the game, and has never even touched it before. He refused to give the GMs/devs any access to the server files, so they couldn't actually fix much or even add anything.
So yeah... regardless of if it did stay up longer, the owner would have driven it into the ground one way or another. Which is really sad because both of the GMs worked so hard and put so much heart into making that server a reality.

How were they able to work on it and make it work without having access to the files? Or do you mean the owner wouldn't give them access to the actual server on which the game was running? Or did the owner do everything himself?
If the people who worked on it have the actual files they can at any time open up their own server. Renting out servers is cheap these days. They can probably run it for anywhere between 50 - 100$ a month depending on how many players they expect to have.

They basically had to make changes to the game and go through him to actually have anything added.... which was difficult because he didn't believe things needed changing, and it was hard enough to communicate as is since English was not his native language.
They do not have the server files either. Only the server owner has access to them, and currently refuses to release them.

Well if his server files are G13 it's better he keep that filth to himself.

To each their own. That server was a dream come true for my friends and I. of course my ideal server would be kept at G7, but G13 was tolerable enough for me.
Dynamic combat system was the final nail in the coffin for me, and I just want to be able to play the game I used to be so passionate about again.
