I was wanted to make a pair of nice pilgrim swords for the combat update. To do so I see that I need to start running crusader. I finished g19 but I don't have much information except for failing hard at the solo mission with rank F crusader skills and no tactics.

Is there a guide to solo mission?

What levels should I rank my crusader skills to right now in order to run reasonably or at least not be a hinderance? (I don't have the ap for r1)

To run solo mission effectively, the only crusader skill you will need to rank up is shield of trust.

Tactics other than that is just use your highest dps non elemental relying 1v1 skill. Also to avoid his staff swing the NPCs will usually hold aggro or you can run through him to get behind him or use a skill that moves you such as shooting rush

Ranking up Shield of Trust means you take less damage. Alternatively, if you hide inside a mimic, you can avoid the meteor as well.

I've seen people make firebolt extremely effective against it, but I've never done any magic so I can't really get in to that kind of specific discussion because I won't really know what I'm talking about

Meteor doesn't affect pets. Practically all of Apostle's attacks ignore pets except staff swings.

Still better to use Shield of Trust though. You leave him stunned for a bit on success. Not to mention, you can heal yourself and move faster for a bit, and etc. as you rank the subskills.

I've ridden Nimbus and the Meteor still hits me directly...

Anyway, in the solo run the only Crusader skill you need is Shield of Trust. You can't use Spike or Blade since they go on cooldown and you'll take 50% of your max health.

Magic is fine, just you can't rely on elemental damage. Girghashiy basically has the ultimate neutral element, so no matter what your elemental modifier is always gonna be a flat 1x whether you're using an ele 6 reforged sword or firebolt or whatever.

If you're going to do magic, you're basically going to require either high rank Lifedrain or a pet with really good healing abilities, and also probably to reduce your HP as much as possible. Girgashiy's contagion is usually spammed a lot and does a flat % of your max HP per second, so you basically need to pot, drain, get healed, or die.

Don't attempt solo until you get to r1 Shield of Trust, because that's the point at which it blocks 100% of Mineral Hail's damage.

Mimic is not the same as Nimbus...

Of course it will hit you directly, you are still there. However, notice that it doesn't hit the Nimbus at all when you riding it.

Thanks for the tips guys. I soloed him with rank D shield and firebolt spam. I pot poisoned myself until I tried lifedrain which worked wonders.

edit: I have defeated the solo one 5 times now and ranked shield up to 9. But no mats have dropped. Is his drop late super low?

Yes, it is super low on solo. So low that you may or may not be better off buying materials.

Easy difficulty does not drop any. Normal sometimes drop something. Hard mode will always drop 2 materials. However, you can't really solo them.
