Toradora is now my favorite romance anime. This one really hits me close to heart, when it wants to be funny, it is funny, when it wants to be serious, you feel every ounce of emotion. I wasn't planning on watching this anime to the end when I started because I don't really understand the MC yet, but as the series goes on I like the MC more and more, and what can I say, I am a sucker for angry loli.
Maybe my recommendation isn't much since I don't watch a lot of romance, maybe there are better out there but take it for what it's worth, it's an amazing series for noob romance anime watcher.

Not to brag, I've seen quite a lot of romance anime and Toradora still remains my number one. It's neither generic, nor over the top like most similar series and indeed does perfect job at conveying lots of different emotions.
Unless allergic to romance, everyone should watch it.

It was alright, and enjoyable. I wouldn't dare say its my personal favorite, but opinions.
I would recommend:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2034/Lovely%E2%98%85Complex
And:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/17895/Golden_Time
Lovely Complex is just something I think reminds me of Toradora! although its been years since I've watched it. And Golden Time I found
really interesting not just because of the story, but the characters. I think its one of the most realistic personalities I've seen in a romantic anime.

Watched a bit of love complex, looks good, although the humor is a bit off for me. and compare to Toradora, that girl's infatuation seems less realistic.

Toradora was one of the first romance genre animes I watched along with Kimi ni Todoke.
Both of them will always have a special place in my heart, haha.

My favorite romance anime is Lupin III. Poor Lupin, will Fujiko ever stop betraying you?

If you enjoyed the anime, you should read the Toradora! Light Novel too. It's worth it.
I myself read it before watching it.
