EGO Fire Wand?

So, I am curious, is it better to just have a Savage Fire Wand with CC+4 and a good ma/cast speed reforge, or to get a good cast speed / ma phoenix fire wand and EGO it? I have heard from a few mage friends that EGO Fire wands are alot better than Savage fire wand nowadays, but I don't know enough to make a decision.
