I understand what you're trying to say about the difficulty of raising/maintaining an ego, and how practical/cheaper/efficient upgraded weapons are... but the same applies to most if not all egos, yet people still choose to go for them and we have this entire thread as proof.
Yes, but doesn't that serve to help my point? I'm saying R/S upgraded knuckles would be more efficient than something like ego knuckles. I also used the iron mace ego to point out that there are definitely instances where egos are entirely inefficient. Unless you wanted to ego a weapon purely for aesthetics, most egos aren't worth using, even when they are capped/near capped.

You don't understand what I'm trying to say. I'm just saying that there is a high breakeven point for average damage when comparing R-upgraded weapons to ego or S-upgraded weapons as the entire martial arts skillset as a whole has low base damage and partly revolves around multiple hits with lower multipliers. Because of this, if there were spirit knuckles they would be very good weapons to own, and possibly superior to R-upgrades enough to be worth using and that's all I ever tried to say.
I can agree that in theory, ego knuckles would be superior in the long run. If, and only if, by a small margin. I never said upgraded knuckles are superior, I definitely recall saying it would probably be better to just maintain upgraded knuckles.

Edit :Knuckles have notoriously low durability after upgrading and enchanting(even without the occasional failure) second to dirks and dagger. Ego knuckles would... I'm guessing have much higher dura/crit/balance then a fully max dmg upgraded hobnail knuckle level 6S grade.
My knuckles have 20 max durability at the moment. There's definitely no debating that an ego weapon will have much more durability. Critical is still on the table though, especially with artisan in mind. Balance shouldn't be too much of an issue with knuckles either, my pair have 32%.
