Super glitchy. Black screen with nothing but outlines of characters

Here is my spec:

Intel 4210U 2.7ghz I5 core
Window 8.1
Intel HD 4400, upto 1792MB Dynamic Video Memory
Ram 4gb.

Whenever I enter the game after choosing a character,

1) the screen is black except building/characters/NPC outlines
2) everything is fine except my character, which is black for some reason.
3) when I teleport to other continent, it becomes fine but then gets bad again when I enter shops or whatnot.

HELP! Is it my graphic card? My computer is on max performance already. I saw several Korean users(of course, Korean client, not American client) who used Intel HD 4400 and played well. I thought Intel HD 4400 is decent enough...

It has an Intel HD4600 though, not a HD4400.

I suspect it is related to Windows 8.1 more than anything. This issue has appeared a few times.

What I found is if I afk long enough it does eventually load everything, but on changing maps it has to start over. Opening the options also makes it restart trying to load everything.

I suspect the problem is actually that the HD4600 IGP powered systems have broken compatibility, and the suggestion seen in previous threads of downgrading the video driver might not be enough to fix it.

If yours looks anything like this, here's what I'm seeing. It sometimes manages to load the floor texture at least.

Found a fix. It appears that by default my laptop was using a semi-generic Intel HD Graphics driver from January 2014. A lot of people reported graphics issues after upgrading to Windows 8.1 that were fixed by changing driver, and it is likely that same driver is still bundled with Windows 8.1 for new installs as well as upgrades on systems using current tech Intel HD Graphics.

Updating the driver to the latest version seems to have fixed the problem, I got the update from Intel's site.

At the time of this post, it is Version: 15.36.18.64.4156 (Latest) Date: 03/06/2015 and is working correctly with Mabinogi.
