Hey guys, I recently started playing Mabinogi right now and I have read around the forums. So giants are in a strong position and elves are weaker due to the power creep I believe? I have a level 3k elf with maxed ranged skills and the major puppet skills at or near r1 but I am not a master puppeteer; I have dabbled in melee to grab some strength so I have 1k str and dex; but I also want to expand to magic skills as well. I currently have 320 str, 375 int, and 700 dex. I also have weaving and refine at r1 along with some easy gathering life skills On the other hand, I am very interested in leveling up my giant because melee seems much more fluid than ranged combat does. I find that my puppets do much more than my ranged damage (crash shot vs act 3 and act 7) so I was wondering if I should choose between a giant and an elf right now because giants seem in a very favorable position.

Only thing int will do for your archery is magic defence, and that dex will do literally nothing for a mage.
I'd recommend anything that ISN'T magic since you already have so much dex.
Unless you just want to not suck at mana shield, I guess?
As for elf/giant, ehhhhh.
Technically giants are the best or tied for best at everything that isn't puppetry, but I'd personally never give up my elf walk speed.

You can't really ignore the elf magnum DPS, but that's only theoretical, where it's only possible when you have really good connection. Another problem is that you need a LOT of investment to reach the power level you want. In your status, you're not even close, stat wise. I'd think you should be focusing more on your gears.
In the end, it really doesn't matter which race you go. Giants get the shorter stick at the end as they fall just a bit in DPS but they'll still destroy everything.
If you lag more, Giants may fare better for you. Otherwise, I'd stay with elf.

Thank you for the helpful replies. If I were to continue with my elf, what gear and what skills should I be looking to max next? If I were to play on my giant, what should some short and long term goals be?
