Human
What is the definition of a human?
The dictionary says that a human is “any member of the species Homo Sapiensâ€
What the definition doesn’t read though is;
“Any member of the species Homo Sapiens that acts, thinks and behaves like every other humanâ€
Humans as a whole are so diverse that we would never be able to fit ourselves into phrases or words
Nevertheless we still treat each other as if our definitions all come from different pages of the same book
We turn these definitions into people and treat them as if you could read their emotions like letters
As if the words don’t change and the pages never turn
We never meet someone without immediately trying to fit them onto a piece of paper
To put them into the words of someone else’s page without first reading their ink
Just because one person behaves a certain way and you meet someone similar to them
It doesn’t mean that they are two birds of a feather and will of course, flock together
By stereotyping someone, it forces them into a maze with no start and no stop
They either have to try and traverse the maze; change your opinion of them with almost no chance of success
Or stay where they were put and hope that eventually the maze will open up for them
And accept the escape from the prison they were put in on someone else’s accord
So why can’t we assume that all people start with a blank page
A sheet of white paper that they can write their own definition on without prejudice
And let them put their page into our book where we can remember them as who they are
Despite our preconceived notions of others mentalities
So always keep a few blank pages in the back of your book
And hope that others will do the same in theirs
Because looks are almost always deceiving
And as the famous phrase goes, “you can’t judge a book by its coverâ€
