Well hello i just opened an account over here after i saw theres an anime and manga forum aswell, so it's a kind of recommandation thread.
i did notice theres a special thread for recommendations but i want it to be a discussion aswell, and i also write allot.
Anyway,
Mushoku Tensei is a manga based on a Web Novel that is now published in japan as a Light Novel aswell.
it is talking about an Hikikomori NEET who died saving highschoolers from an accident.
and when he comes back to life he's a baby, in another world.
so basicly the story follows our main character who is now called "Rudeus" and his new life in a new fantasy world, while still having his past life memories.
The manga has 10 translated chapters but the Novel has all 23+1 volumes translated.
First of all, thats a recommendation of something im reading for a while and enjoying it, i don't know how many of you reads Light Novels but you can read the manga and after that starting reading the novel from the place the manga left off, as a person who red around 3 novels i can say it's pretty easy to read and fun, im still at volume 14 though.
The world of Mushoku Tensei is an RPG-like world, true these days such things are not original anymore, and you can find stuff like this everywhere.
BUT, i found Mushoku Tensei to be very diffrent from the others, the story is realy showing the world unlike other fantasy series when its acting in a way like we "allready know the RPG and fantasy stuff so lets continue the plot" but still makes it an interesting world even for people who played dozens of RPG-games or watched hundreds of anime-manga in the genre.
I even found it very similiar to Mabinogi in some ways (not just the basic RPG stuff im talking about indepth stuff but thats for the people who will read to find out).
The story is divided for 4 parts:
Infancy Period (which is only the first volume at both the novel and the magnga)
Juvenile Period
Youth Period
Young Man Period
i don't want to say anymore stuff even though its not spoilers i think its better for the people who are interested to find it themselves.
also i allready wrote allot i hope people will acttualy read it
so thats why:
TLDR section:
If you like RPG and fantasy genre and you don't mind reading a novel (or waiting 1 mounth for a manga chapter)
you should definitely try Mushoku Tensei - Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu
you can try the manga first, and if you like it start reading the novel.
if there's any questions ill be happy to answer them.
Enjoy
(and also if anyone red it allready you can also leave ur own thoughts about it.)

Welcome to the forums Icaros!
I will definitely be reading this later on, this seems right up my alley and I've been wanting to get back into mangga and anime. Thanks

I like it but at first the main character is scum. He gets better but if you don't like a fat pedophilic piece of shit otaku that gets reincarnated into a pretty boy "genius" then you may hate it.

An otaku that lived alone for so many years and never had any interaction with girls since he was young, i think its natural to lust so much.
and also, he's not raping any girls or doing some digusting things or deceiving people (beside not telling the fact that he is a reincarnation).
but the thing that is good is that theres a character development that starts allready from the first volume.
so i don't think thats a factor for not reading unless you REALY hate ANYTHING sex-related.
Masturbating to his niece and basically attempting to groom his childhood friend? Yeah. But as I said he grows up and I end up liking him. Super humble, very polite and super strong. Of course he builds a shrine to panties.
Picked up.
Actually, I've read the first three chapters last night and there's one thing that bothers me. No matter how hard I try to look away from it, it feels like some escapism self-insert fantasy. Basically, you reincarnate into a cute boy in a world where you can make a living from adventuring, you have a hot and loving mother, your own maid and loli-wizard-demon teacher. And then you overcome years worth of emotional trauma in a matter of days, pretty effortlessly.
Maybe it gets better later on but so far I'm not impressed with the general concept. The art is really nice, though. And I like the humour (especially that part with elves and tentacles - it never gets old).
Well all of the things he did was a confusion between his own body of a child and a mind of an adult, and as we saw he didn't cross lines like incest and stuff cuz his body recognize family as family and wrong as wrong
And yup in the end the character development is great.

I won't spoil you but that's only the first volume, in the second volume theres a bit of a change, which is allready in the manga.
But unfortuneately there is only part of the second volume in the manga
which means, nothing really happens in the manga in the end (nothing serious for now).
But thats still a good trigger to start reading the Novel.
So if you like the manga so far you should definitely read the novel.
And also, yes, its getting better by far in the third volume after a drastic "turning point".

It's a second chance at life. Things aren't so peachy after awhile. Shit happens and it's shocking.

Don't most shonen manga have some form of escapism?
I read the first few chapters, It's okay. It seems like it'll get super shonen-y and probably fan-servicey further down the road. Anywho I'll keep reading

@UP While I don't have much experience with shounen manga, I can tell this is true for many works of fiction in general. It's just that this one felt particularly obvious.
But people keep on telling me that it gets better so I'll give it another try.

Actually a pretty good series, finished it a few months ago. Story picks up a LOT after volume 11 or so (might seem like quite a bit to read, but keep in mind it's a web novel). It's one of the few web novels where the light novel releases don't add a whole ton of content to the story, so you can definitely plough through the without having to worry about missing anything.
If you're reading the English translation, be prepared for some not-so-great prose. From what I've read on other sites most of the English version's either a machine translation or JP->CN->EN.

i read the light novel it was great imo, i read it like in a timespan of just like, waking up, reading, sleeping, rinse repeat, was rly good.
i really like the rebirth/reincarnated or like rpg genre type LN because i've started most of the mangas and they're all to slow for updates and stuff so i branched off into reading the light novels

Although not quite like alike, if you keep looking for more stuff to read you might find yourself reading some Chinese web novels, a lot of the popular ones deal with protags rebirthing/reincarnating. More than a handful get consistent translation updates.
