  It does, it takes place thousands of years before MS1, no sign of there being trascendents yet. There's some force called Lapenta that created the world and idk what the deal is about it. The empress of the Maple World is Ereb, who lives in Tria (supposedly Ereb/Ereve in MS1 occupies the same land as Tria, but none of the same architecture or people left; and its obviously named after the Empress).

  So it's being slowly created, like MS1 which originally had no transcendents. Out of all the MMORPGs I've played I have to admit MapleStory is one of the very few that has plot that actually makes sense (ignoring the fillers, especially New Leaf City being invaded by clicheness), where every class's stories tie up together and culminates to events like Black Heaven. So I'm quite curious to see how MS2 will turn out.

  I'm sure my summary of the story was over-simplicized, I don't read korean so that's just what I was able to gather.
