I want to let this off my shoulders. I was playing Tera yesterday, they recently released a whole bunch of new dungeons for endgame. A guild mate accompanied me to a random party and after a party wipe, went AFK unannounced. The party tried to kick the guild mate, but I refused twice; they then kicked me out of the dungeon.
How did I feel after? Angry, infuriated, extremely pissed off. That counted toward my instance entry daily and that would mean losing all the precious rewards at the end (which heavily contributed to endgame if I may add). I didn't lash out at the guild mate (but I did tell them they should have at least said something), but I ended up venting out. Aside from the guild, everyone -guild alliance, global chat, forums- told me it was my fault for standing by the guild mate, even having the nerve to state my guild mate voted against me (some of my other guild mates actually believed this due to some mechanic of votes that require the entire party which I don't even know if its true or not, and ended up removing the guild mate who partied with me after some assessment by the leader, even though I dislike doubting others, though my guild did say that I did the right thing by standing by for a fellow).
I understand I might have held up the run a bit, but was it completely wrong for me to stand by for a guild mate or friend?

When your guild mate is doing something wrong, in this case going afk, I'd say so.
I don't stand up for guildies in Mabi that do something wrong. Biggest example is the snowball event when my guildie got everyone pissed off by multiclienting and botting, and honestly, there is no excuse for that, guildy or not. If I see them doing wrong, I won't defend them, and tell them what they did wrong.
While it is pretty douchey of the party to kick you, you should have agreed to kick your guildy out. Being a guildy does not equate to automatic pardon of things you do wrong.

If the guild member's AFKing without a valid response, then he's wasting the entire party's time as well as yours, in which they could be doing the raid with a new member(who can easily be found among the sea of players). In the world of MMOs or extreme efficiency, that's a big no no. It's a daily thing, he can wait til tomorrow to get the rewards again.

Yes.

... Really, everyone is willing to betray their own friend?

I'm sorry, but I personally would kick my own friend as well.
There's a difference between saying to a random party of players:
"Oh he'll be back in 5 minutes, something important came up."
and
"Uh. Let's just wait 2 minutes. And 2 more minutes ... etc"
It is quite evident you're a bit pissed off at the situation that occurred to you, but you must consider that if (
incoming ad populum fallacy) a large majority of people believe that waiting for this guidlie is the wrong thing to do ... then you might be missing something here.
Ultimately I think it's a matter of courtesy, in the world of MMOs a person's time is kind of important.
I would rather have my friend say to me "Hey man, I tried to wait/stall as long as I could - but the party didn't want to wait any longer." Rather than waste other people's time and risk my reputation for being THAT GUY who AFKs suddenly during dungeon runs. (
You know ... THAT GUY)
In the end, I would never say it was "your fault" - as you really didn't do anything "wrong". But the best you can do in this situation is just ready up for the dungeon tomorrow and keep on having a good time on TERA.

Its your fault. Tell them they went afk, if they dont want to wait then they dont want to wait you and the guildee have to deal with it. Your mistake was refusing the kick, if you had accepted the kick but told them beforehand that he was going afk then you would have been fine.

If your friend is afking without telling others, I think it's alright to go without him. Just invite him back for him when he's not afk, because you could be waiting for along time. It also avoids this unnecessary conflict.

You need to redefine betrayal man.
If someone kicked me because i went afk unannounced, i would have expected it and been like. Whoops my bad.

You sound like you were expecting to be a hero for doing this.

It is extremely annoying when someone is in the wrong and someone else defends them at the expense of someone else just on the basis that they are friends.
This whole thing is just a ton of drama that shouldn't have been there. :V

While it is not an annoyance for me, people should note that being friends does not mean wrongdoing is okay.
That's all there is to it, really.
