I'm actually going to be in Korea this August, I guess I'll go make a visit. Can't really resist cheap bingsoo!
Anyone else going to be in Korea at the same time?

I'm in Korea right now, down in Gunsan.
I'll be moving to Japan early September.

south Korea and Japan? wow I'm jealous... just for curiosity, do u speak fluent Japanese or Korean?
OT: I'd love to see one in NA but I'm like 99% sure it won't happen :c

Damn, too far for me... unless you'd be willing to come up to Seoul for the lousy Cafe.
As for Kaeporo, I believe he's stationed in the US forces there, so I'd think he'd speak some bits of Korean. I'm a fluent speaker.

I've lived in Djibouti, Jordan, Korea, and soon to be Japan.
I've visited Scotland, Spain, Germany, Sicily, and Bahrain but none for more than a few days while in transit.

I can say "hello" and "thank you". Thankfully our foreign counterparts and contractors are fluent in English.

Mabi must be doing better than we think over there if they're opening what seems to be a permanent physical location based entirely on the game.

It's a Korean MMO. I would be shocked if it wasn't one of the top games over there. Even their 10th year anniversary was a blast. I also haven't seen the population of KR really die down all that much despite all the filler events.

Anyone know around how much they spent on this? and maybe why they didn't buy a new game engine instead o3o

Mabinogi is actually a very well known game in Korea, and is also viewed more favorably.

The development we've been seeing doesn't seem to show it the same sort of respect though (both lack of giving a damn and the really poor development that's been brought to light in the data mines). Sad.

The treatment devCat gives to Mabinogi KR players vs. how Nexon NA treats us Mabinogi NA players is as different as night and day.
Not saying NA does its best, but the level of attention, events, and care is much more so.

I can't speak for the treatment towards players since I only know NA. What I mean is the development of the game. We get (almost) the same content so we have a pretty good idea of the progress being made on game development, bug fixes, improvements and so on.
For a video game that, from what I hear, is in the top MMOs list for Korea, has extravagant live events (10th anniversary thing and past events were pretty nice too), and now a dedicated physical establishment... it sure doesn't seem to be getting the development attention it deserves for a game of such high praises.
Maybe they'll shut me up with a real mabinogi 2.0 that totally revamps the engine, graphics and bugs, but everything I have seen in the past half decade has been bandaid solutions, and building on top of an already broken platform.
It's still fun, otherwise I wouldn't be playing it and mabination would not be here. I'm just saying that for the level of success it seems to be having in Korea, it isn't being reflected in the efforts put towards improving the game and bringing new life to it to take advantage of said success and make it even better (which would lead to more success and more money).

I think it's more of older loyal players. Think about pro gaming team fans, for example, Samsung Galaxy and Cloud 9 in LoL. They're both not doing great, but they still have a considerable loyal fan base. It's kind of like that, but Mabinogi is in an arguably better situation.
Also, the game's focus on fashion + socialization is hard to come by. Yes, there are many games with skins, variety of clothes, but there aren't many that tops off Mabinogi.
For now, we can wait to see what the new director does for G20. It's also noteworthy that devCat is developing another game for PC. No, it's not the paused project Mabinogi 2, it's a different game, a game that has not been veiled yet.
