Where to find good swords?

The best swords are usually smith with materials found in those instance.

Though above average sword grade of regular weapons with better attack and dura is nice.

Normally, if you're new... you would want a Gladius, Battle Sword, or Broad sword to start with.

They're nice, cheap, easier to repair.

Then when you establish yourself, you can grind to get the Focus Rainbow Beam Sword which rivals the #1 sword spot, the CRK, but is much cheaper to repair.

Celtic Royal Knight Sword are the best sword when dual wielded together, but their repair cost also reflects that.

Whereas with the Focus Rainbow Beam Sword, the difference is minor enough that you can still work with it pretty well.

Just a note, in Mabinogi there's no such thing as like, a level 10 sword or a level 20 sword or something. There's not a lot of tiers of equipment you go through. Instead you can get better-stat versions of existing equipment from some rare drops or whatever skill can make that type of equipment, and then further improve the equipment via upgrading it as you gain proficiency with it (which can eventually go into stone upgrades and such) and enchants possibly too.

So instead of upgrading through level-locked tiers, the ability to use rarer and stronger equipment is limited by the ability to get the equipment, the ability to afford the repairs, and the work and materials that go into upgrading it to improve it.

If you mean the beam swords, you can either buy them from other players or, on Wednesdays, trade in 180 Adventurer Seals (gained from daily quests) to the Seal Merchant for one.

Do note that those, as really high-end weapons, cost a lot to repair.

Second part, mostly true, as it is on the costlier repair side, but there are many other weapons that cost more, most of the time for good reasons.

First part though, I'd highly disagree with. Beam swords are mid-game weapons at best, but in terms of immediate power boost, it's great for beginners, provided they can get rank 1 sword mastery (which they should with the abundance of AP and easy training), but as said later, kind of a hassle to maintain because of fairly high repair costs that may or may not be too much for beginners.

If you really want to make weapons from the scratch, I'd go either for Fluted Short Sword or Broad Sword. Fluted Short Sword's artisan upgrade is impressive for a cheap weapon, and has normal attack speed, which is pretty optimal for Bash. Broad Sword, while slow hit weapon, is all around pretty good, ok damage, and special upgradeable, although I'd think you'd want to save your upgrade stones for better weapons.

As for "good" swords that can actually drop from contents, there are Demonic Death Knight Swords that drop from Saga episode boxes, but the problem is that you have to be Master Warrior talent in order to equip this. There are also Pilgrim Sword and Fanatic Great Sword that can drop as a reward in G19 raids, but that's a very far fetched goal for you at the moment.

"High end" in terms of the item itself, not what users do with it. A beam sword is a high-end sword. It has much higher attack than most other swords in the game, and also a much higher repair fee coupled with that.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm trying to point out that a weapon in terms of game data is a separate concept from what players will do with that weapon. If you were to take a list of the available swords in the game and sort them in descending order by some concept relating to the weapon's use itself (such as min damage, max damage, dura, repair fee) Beam Swords would be on the high end of the list, and note that these aspects tend to follow eachother suit. High damage tends to mean high repair rates being the example I gave.

As long as you don't care about critical built-in, I find beholder swords to be amazing. Cheap repair, decent power, fast speed, dual wield. No special upgrade or anything, but nice causal swords to just use for everyday content.

Of course, OP would need to buy one from a player, since they only drop on hard and elite SMs from dark/shadow commanders, but players generally sell them fairly cheap.

Noble, Dirk, and War swords are also decent, but also hard to get.

Alternatively, I would recommend just getting a pair of fluted short swords from NPC and upgrading them yourself. Mega cheap to repair, good stats if you focus on max damage, fast, and easy to get.
