They announced the device today, in 360 degrees VR using Google Cardboard. :D

- Confirmed that the camera will have optical image stabilization, which is fantastic news, especially for those who want to shoot video (assuming it does also work with video and not just photos.)

- Confirmed 5.5" 1080p screen, which is also fantastic news--I was worried they would go the hipster/dumb route and go for an excessively high res display which offers no benefit and ups the cost + drains your battery more.

- Probably other things I was too lazy to catch/didn't catch during the unveiling video as I was busy hunting for those invite codes they hid throughout it... >>

They kept the sandstone black texture, yessss! (Friend has this on the first gen One and it's awesome.) Glad they didn't go for the idiotic "premium" design choice of making the backplate metal or glass.

IMO the front looks pretty average. A nice, clean design, but not really amazing, either.

They trolled and didn't announce the price. :| I'm sure it was leaked somewhere online by now but I'm too lazy to check. It's supposed to be less than $450, unlocked and off contract, of course.

Will probably get this after waiting to see what the new Nexus 5 2015 will be like.

What's so special about this device that pairs it with VR. Can't just about any mobile device do VR just fine provided that the video is formatted properly?

Absolutely nothing. VR was used to show you the product launch; it's not a feature of the device itself.

VR is in fact one thing that this phone won't be that great at, since the display is "only" 1080p, meaning you'll see a harsher pixel grid than you would on one of the phones with the otherwise useless super high resolution displays.

This thing apparently doesn't have NFC (according to a few articles I've seen), which pretty much kills some useful stuff... (I open doors to my office and some customers using my phone NFC), not to mention more popular uses like payment systems which will probably start getting quite popular soon.

I hope those articles are wrong in saying it doesn't have NFC, pretty much a crippled phone if it doesn't (from my point of view).

A spokesperson for OnePlus said: "While NFC acceptance is growing, it is not as widespread as originally thought. We built the best device focusing on what users really need and use.

"We heard from a lot of users of the OnePlus One and saw most of our users weren't using NFC."

I guess I'll be waiting for the new Nexus 5.

Also no quick charging... I love my quick charging because I'm an idiot and forget to charge my phone half the time, but notice it when I wake up and it's 100% by the time I step out the door.

Quick charging does however have the drawback of shortening your battery's life span, though. Not a huge fan of it for that reason.

The NFC thing is the real deal breaker IMO. Can't believe they used that crappy justification for it. I bet there's an uproar on their forum over it. xd

However OnePlus now has competition with the Moto X Pure Edition coming out and has pretty much squashed OnePlus 2 announcement imo

I think their [S]marketing[/S] advertising is fine overall. They're a startup. They can do what they want if they think it will work for them. They shouldn't be doing things the way other companies are. One thing that I hated was when they wanted people to take videos of themselves smashing their old flagship phones if they won a free OPO. That event was just tacky and stupid. Hilariously enough, a bunch of people misunderstood the contest and smashed their phones before they got selected, leaving them with nothing. Oops.

Either way, I couldn't care less about their advertising; I care only about the product. A product which unfortunately looks awesome but has one stupid flaw this time around. Oh well.

Yes. It looks good overall. I heard the battery life was a bit worse though? Even though they increased it from a 3100 to a 3300 mAh? Hopefully a software update can fix it.

I'm also waiting for the new Nexus 5, although im sure it probably can't beat the value.
