A man who promised to build the UK’s first women’s museum has instead created a museum to serial killer Jack the Ripper.
The museum, which originally promised to celebrate women’s rights and accomplishments, is now about a notorious serial killer who targeted women.

I think he played a good game. Trick the feminists into thinking the museum is about them, then when they aren't looking switch it to a museum about serial killers. :thumb:

Still technically about women right?

i was just gonna leave my contribution to this thread at the post i made earlier but i cant sleep and im high as BALLS right now and was just thinking about how fuckin dumb this whole thing is
First of all, anyone who thinks this is even slightly amusing because "feminists" get pissed is just being blatantly ignorant. You don't even HAVE to be a feminazi to show a liking towards women's history. Just as there's black history, mexican history, native american history and ETC., just because race and gender are nothing more than social constructs doesn't mean people aren't allowed to take pride in their own kind's contributions to society. It's fascinating to see someone of your own sex, (especially when they were oppressed) do something of significance, and it's also nice to see the struggles WOMEN went through in order to get to where we are today. I assume in a society where women were openly oppressed, hearing about these things would have been extremely interesting, and since this would have been the FIRST women's museum in the UK the disappoint is very much so justified, and you can't just spit in the faces of those who are upset. That's messed up.
And secondly, and I don't care if people take offense to thism but FOR CHRISTS SAKE. The people defending this choice say "Well, the museum is focusing on the life of the women that he murdered". First of all, I'd like to say that most (all?) of these women were nothing more than common whores and the only significance they had on the world was from being MURDERED. These women deserve memorials, NOT A MUSEUM. Their notoriety was formed by a matter of bad luck. The museum was made to attract morbid history fanatics, obviously, not out of any respect for women of anyone for that matter. AS SOMEONE WHO RESPECTS MUSEUMS, HISTORY, AND THE BATTLES WOMEN WENT THROUGH, I AM OFFENDED.

Yeah, turning around and dedicating it to a man who slit prostitutes a new smile is not anywhere near funny or a witty statement, and it's only something a most crassly undecent person would actually go through doing.
If he really wanted to give a finger to anti-sex butch lesbian feminism, he could've, I dunno, included sex work history?

Well, he said that covering women’s rights and accomplishments normally would be too boring and no one would go, so he did this to make it more interesting. Only time will tell whether that works out or not. To be fair he has a point, I would never go to a museum about women's rights. Its not a very interesting topic. Of course I wouldn't go to a museum of men's rights either. Equally boring.

Hmm ok, I should've looked at the article, lol. Idiot me.
We did plan to do a museum about social history of women but as the project developed we decided a more interesting angle was from the perspective of the victims of Jack the Ripper.
It is absolutely not celebrating the crime of Jack the Ripper but looking at why and how the women got in that situation in the first place.
That seems plausible, given his track record...

Although then again he focuses on gay rights and not on women's rights, so...
Either way it's still a terribly bad and thoughtless move and he deserves the backlash.

Really? I think a LOT of people would disagree that it's an uninteresting topic. You can't even COMPARE women's rights to men's rights when it comes to the course of history. Until recently, most of the world was in a patriarchal society - CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG. Learning about the history of an injustice that was defeated in most first world countries is PRETTY DARN INTERESTING IMO, especially when it involves half the population. Just as a lot of people find the history of race and homosexuality to be fascinating, the history of women is also interesting. Without women's rights, I wouldn't be blabbing and bitching away on my keyboard right now. I don't even know how the hell you're trying to use men's rights in this kind of argument as if we were always considered to be equals.

On the subject of finding it interesting, I really don't find it interesting at all, but not in a "I don't care" sort of way.
I see it as a situation that should never have been an issue to begin with. I'm disgusted at the human race for making women be lower class citizens for so long, I'm glad it's changing in some parts of the world, and I see there's still a lot of work to do (same opinion for race/sexual orientation rights).
Just because I care about those things doesn't mean I think the history of such things is a fascinating subject, I'm more interested in what's going to be done next to keep improving things. How much money went into this useless project? Could that money have been helping women in some backward-thinking country that are being treated like animals?
Museums are for history, women being treated poorly is not history yet, it's still happening.

Yeah, I do get sick of how people automatically jump into anti-feminist mode for anything about women.
This is something that would offend uhh, at least half the earth's population... not just feminists or feminazis, and not just women.
I mean, you don't have to be a mens' rights activist to be offended about sexism against men either. I consider myself feminist(the pro-equality kind), but I get upset seeing blatant sexism against men too.

If they're dead it's history, if they're alive it's a gallery/exhibit.

There's an interesting theory that Jack the Ripper was actually a woman.

Could be. Maybe her husband cheated on her with a prostitute and she wanted revenge.
