Came across the most adorable tortoise today

It walked right up to me. I had tried to move out of it's way but it really wanted to see what my shoe was. I would walk away and it would follow me, rinse and repeat. Eventually it got bored or figured out what my shoe was and went on it's merry way.

It's best to leave wild animals alone splat. Especially as it's a threatened species from what I was reading up on after I got back and was curious on what kind of tortoise it was.

The Tortoise can take care of itself.

Well good thing I wasn't an Italian plumber then. I honestly didn't know what to do when it approached me so I just kind of stood there all amazed and took a bunch of pictures of it since it was so kind to come to me. I didn't dare touch it though.

Well good thing I wasn't an Italian plumber then. I honestly didn't know what to do when it approached me so I just kind of stood there all amazed and took a bunch of pictures of it since it was so kind to come to me. I didn't dare touch it though.

This wasn't in my area which makes it all the more special. I spotted it while I was hiking with a high school classmate I hadn't seen in 9 years. It was in California that I spotted it and I'm heading back home to New York State tomorrow.

Also I live in the city so getting to see anything awesome like this is very very rare for me. So everytime I come across a wild creature I've never seen before I treat it as an amazing and awesome experience that's worth getting excited about.

That being said, the quick research I did to try and identify this has led me to believe that hibernation for them begins next month and they are most active during Spring/Early Summer so to see them at this time of year is pretty rare.

Uuu... I'm jealous... I want to witness the exotic nature and wildlife with my own eyes... or at least have a wild cat approach me and stick around a bit. :cry:

It was more adorable in the fact that it kept following me around, not in how it actually looked. It's behavior was adorable.
